RE: UAB, Samford, Alabama, Auburn
If an AD watches UAB on TV, sees us with a decent record and a half empty gym. Why would he consider sending his High Major to Bartow for a home and home series or one-off buy game? I promise you they aren’t scared of us. They want the trip to be worth it.
When you have no atmosphere, how is that providing a good test for an opposing program or benefitting their SOS either?
The more butts in seats, the better the atmosphere. You control how good of an experience you’re going to have. “Life’s what you make it”- Hannah Montana
While I think scheduling high majors will help, ultimately folks are going to have to decide to be at Bartow no matter the opponent.
More butts in seats means more money we can use in game contracts for scheduling. That’s why there is an insistence to show up no matter what.
If the travel budget is an issue, and you already know it’s something they won’t budge on for our AD. The only way to help him out is to show up and boost the revenue that way.
We’ll probably have this discussion once a month, but you’re not helping by making excuses not to go.
If you’re going to drop games like USM, Ark state, Rice, Wichita state, that’ll settle itself out. It didn’t kill us this year, found a way to learn from it and got hot at the right time. If it don’t fix itself, then changes will be made at the top.
That’s no excuse to say screw it, Im not going to another game. To Which, there is a tendency for people to do for UAB athletics. The moderate to fair weather fans are FICKLE af.

It's always been interesting to me that we have so many fans that only go to football games when we have so much more historical success in basketball. If we had just a portion of our football crowd coming to basketball games Bartow would be sold out.
I'm sure some of it is football games are almost exclusively on Saturdays and are more of a multi-hour experience so that makes it easier to attend and justify travel for people that don't live in the Bham metro. But that's not the circumstance for all of our football only fans.
Maybe some of it is cultural thing with football being so much more popular in Alabama. I can also see how it's easier for families with young kids to come to a Saturday afternoon football game than it is to come to weeknight basketball games.
The main issue is we just need more fans in general. It's asking a lot for people to be at every football game and every basketball game (I do it), but a lot of people can't commit to that. Bama and Auburn just have enough fans that the stadium/arena is still full even if it's not the same people at every single game.

I’m too burnt out to make it a priority to be at softball and baseball games.
Season tickets for football, Basketball, and gold cards. At almost every women’s hoops home game too.
That’s why when basketball season is over, I’m kind of relieved. Only extra curricular I like to commit to is going to Sayre on Saturday nights until football season begins.
So, yeah, we have to expand the fanbase somehow. When many of us know each other by name, it’s a small base.
