G5 vs G5 TV Ratings
Stole this from the MAC board. Very interesting when viewing by conference.

AAC = Dark Blue
SBC = Yellow
MWC = Purple
MAC = Green
CUSA = No One Watches

RE: G5 vs G5 TV Eyeballs
So everyone's about the same except for those with a built-in national audience, relatively speaking.

RE: G5 vs G5 TV Eyeballs
I'm happy to see us high on the list, but I still think the network (and time of day) matters more than the teams.

If the SBC and SEC swapped coverage for two years (most SEC games on ESPN+, most SBC games on CBS/ABC/ESPN/ESPN2), I bet the numbers would look very different by the end of the second year. The argument that TV ratings reflect "brand value" is a bit flawed. I think it's more about platform access than anything else.

It's a loop. More ratings to get better platform. Better platform to get more ratings. Hard to break into.

I would think the first two are sceewed heavily due to the Army/Navy game being played on a day they are the only FBS game being played. Take that one game away and I bet their numbers fall closer to the rest of G5.

If only Troy had made a better coaching hire after Neal Brown and not fallen off so bad for 3 years under CL. Especially in 2020 when the Sun Belt was early season media darling.

Take Army-Navy out, and Navy would still be at Memphis and Air Force's level, with only 1/3 of the Nielsen rated games Boise has.
Army would be down at the bottom of that listing, with only 5 rated games, so the comp is Washington State.

(In 2020 when Army Navy faced a full day of competition, still won the weekend with 4.91 million)

Case in point coastal almost had a million views on its bowl game vs SJSU…. But it started at like 1030 at night. Meanwhile, if I’m not mistaken, Texas State game versus Rice brought about 2 million and it was in the middle of the day.

Yeah, there’s no way more people are truly interested in watching Tulsa than Oregon St.

Where the heck is the mighty ECU on this list? If I were WKU i'd be bolting to the MAC on a wink and a promise just for the eyeballs.

Exactly, the amazing part is being fairly high and most of our games were on Facebook during that timeframe.

This is complete trash presentation. Of course the top 5 TV rated teams played on linear TV by far the most frequently.

Right now, Temple vs FAU basketball is being shown in the background on about 10 different screens out of 50 TVs throughout my gym. I'm sure every other gym, sports bar, restaurants, etc. across the United States have TVs permanently fixed on ESPN during their business hours. Is the TV viewership an accurate representation of FAU/Temple brands? or is it artificially inflated by being televised on a linear network on Saturday evening?

Yup

After spending so much time on the realignment board, it feels weird to post something with so much agreement, and without much pushback. I like it.

RE: G5 vs G5 TV Ratings
I come here in peace and with a question about this graphic. It seems to be based with 2016-2023 data on Nielson-rated channels. Let me know if I'm mistaken, but I think CBS Sports viewership is not reported via Nielson and CUSA has, up until the 2023 football season, exclusively had tv games on CBS Sports (and gas station TVs).

You are correct that CBSSN does not participate in the Neilson ratings. They haven’t been the exclusive CUSA carrier during the entire time period on the graphic, though, although I doubt any ratings data is available for either BeIn or American Sports Network. BeIn was available in the DirecTV sports package and ASN had OTA syndication.
