"nice" thing to do when the NCAA took over the NIT and said conference champions who don't make the NCAA tournament get an automatic bid to the NIT.
However, no one can accuse the power schools, who now run the NCAA, of being "nice". They are destroying college sports as we know it and it will soon be just like pro basketball and football. Probably, even worse since the pro leagues do things to try and maintain competitive balance (i.e. the draft, salary cap, etc.). At this point there is no limit on how much college schools can spend on players and the one's with the most money will get the best ones.
