RE: AAC PostSeason Awards
Wow, so they did Co-Players of the year and Yax wasn't one. But at least he got Defensive Player of the Year.
Co-Players of the Year was Johnell Davis (no surprise) and out of nowhere USF's Chris Youngblood.
Memphis down bad this year...good.

Surprised Gaines didn't at least make 3rd team.

Preseason Player of the Year...
But agree, he stepped up later in in the season.

Relieved that Heroball Jones wasn't Player of the Year.

Congrats to Yax. Amazing first year he's having.

Did he average the most blocks per game in the AAC?

Behind Ballard.

Yax robbed of POTY. Youngblood played on a team that benefited from the easiest conference schedule. Davis plays on the most complete team in the league.

Yax being 17th in league PPG, probably hurts. However, nobody else was more productive across the board.

And to kiss Andy’s ass. Yax did it against the 2nd toughest conference SOS and led his team to a top 4 seed.

Only AAC player to avg a dbl dbl.
Only AAC player to avg at least 10 rebs.
1 of 2 players to avg 2 blocks.

Did so on a team where finding a bucket can be hard.

Yax would have gotten my vote but I understand how it went down and maybe it is for the best. Gives him something to shoot for next year.

I don't disagree with anything you've said, but it's hard for a player on the 4th place team to win POY award. Like you said, look at Youngblood. It's Yax in reverse basically. Less talented player, but best player on the best team. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is.

Shaq should've won more MVPs, Kobe, Lebron, etc. etc. It's kind of a dumb award with the way they are selected. Way too subjective.

Same with Jelly last year. Who in their right mind would say Madea was, or is, a better player than Jelly? Yet he won CUSA POY.

Overall, his road splits were better in many categories, too.

RE: AAC PostSeason Awards
I’m okay with Yax not winning POY. He should have been in the running for sure, but I get why he didn’t win. Youngblood makes no sense. Best player on the best team shouldn’t be the qualification for winning the award. He had a good year, usf had a good year, but he was not the best player in the league.

RE: AAC PostSeason Awards
Box Plus Minus isn't an awesome stat these days but I'm still a fan of it, and I feel like it shows how important Yax has been for the team. Here's a rundown of everyone's totals for the season:

Yax - 6.3
EG - 3.0
Vasquez - 1.1
Davis - 0.9
Coleman - 0.9
Ortiz - 0.5
White - 0.1
Butta - (0.5)
Toney - (1.5)
Dunning - (3.7)
Shaver - (6.0)

RE: AAC PostSeason Awards
I still think +/- has a lot of value. It doesn’t tell the whole story, but it does tell a story. I think we would all say our most valuable players this season are basically in order of that +/- outside of maybe butta Toney and Ortiz.
