RE: Copying the WCC Tournament Bracket

1. ESPN chooses the date of the SBC Title game. We used to have the finals on Selection Sunday, which everyone hated as well because it was such a short turnaround for the tournament and we felt like the Committee had pre-placed our projected champ in the bracket without much debate. (They probably were)
2. While extra byes for the 1 and 2 are doable, no coach is going to agree to a format where a team would have to play 7 games in 7 days to win the title, Athlete safety will take priority.
3. If we want to give an extra bye to the 1 and 2, we likely need to investigate a preliminary round on Campus sites similar to what we planned to do in 2020. Let the 7-14th place teams play a couple rounds on sites and bring the surviving 2 teams to the Tournament location for the traditional 4 day tournament. That entails ending the regular season a few days early, which means OOC schedule is more cramped.
Shoulda been done in 2020… #3 IS the only option. HAS been.
You have to agree you see the problem with our 1 even playing a 9, let alone in a quarterfinal which goes OT, then losing their next game… Both completely unnecessary. A one bid league, which is what we all have been reduced to, MUST take its best shot at promoting it’s season long best team, the one with likely the most name recognition that year, and hope for credits and marquee wins.
Otherwise, we are just sinking further.

RE: Copying the WCC Tournament Bracket
If you could decide the type of bye situation at the last minute sure
I like the idea of protecting a #1 some but only if that #1 was dominant and to a lesser degree #2 getting some protection but in this scenario
#1 1 loss in conference
#2 4 losses in conference
#3 5 losses in conference
in that scenario sure the #1 should get a little protection
but in this
#1 3 losses in conference- earns #1 based on 4th tie break scenario
#2 3 losses in conference - gets #2 because only played #3 once and won at home
#3 3 losses in conference
in what way does that #1 deserve "protection" much less the #2

Rather than playing all 4 Quarterfinals on the same day, they are only playing two games a day. So MTSU wins at 7:00 last night, and will get today off and play tomorrow at 2pm against the winner of WKU/NMSU who play at 8:30pm tonight.
MTSU is the 7 seed, WKU is the 3 seed.
Oh wow. #7 MTSU gets 41 hours rest and #3 WKU gets 15.5 hours rest.
Indeed, that's a bad tourney schedule that disadvantages the higher seed to the advantage of the lower seed.

I've been wondering that myself and I've come to the conclusion that it may be an issue of timing. The Sun Belt having the tournament during the last weekend that most "high major" conferences are finishing the regular season and "high major" women's conference championships are occurring means that the airspace is not there for ESPN to put the semis on a linear channel. Of course, I could be completely off base as I am only speculating.
