No, he’s definitely got a shot to stick, along with Jamal Robinson.

This would be great, but that is it please.

From what I’ve heard, those are the only 2 with a chance to be retained. But things change. It’ll be interesting to watch it unfold.

Id take only one of those two at the most. I dont want any holdover bad stuff poisoning our rebuild. Hope JJ isn't lobbying for these guys and getting in Mike's head. Coach MJ, build your team the way you want it. Youre in charge now and its going to all rest on your shoulders. These guys had their shot. We hired a new coach because they weren't getting it done. Remember that.

I don’t hear much on Jamal on recruiting, but I hear he is good on development, with big 4 & 5’s. KD would be good, as he does all the inside work with travel arrangements, schedules, working with recruits and numerous other jobs as assigned by the head coach. I am sure he would work well with MJ. If Odu improves next year, I would look for a much better OOC schedule, with name schools to play. Our fans deserve the better known teams. I’ll take P5 or known P4 home or away.

You have to see what he had to work with. You can’t teach smarts. Jason is a very smart player, but he is not a big, if that is who you are talking about as one of the three bigs.

Priorities:

1. Hiring a staff. I would imagine that MJ knows who is wants to bring on board as his staff. I would imagine this would be announced sometime next week after he has had conversations with the current staff. I can't see him keeping any of the current staff but wouldn't be surprised if he kept one. Maybe Donahue in his old role. Do we see his old teammate David Harvey, who is a HS coach in Richmond on staff?

3. Re-recruit 2024 class. Sounds like he is actively doing this already. I would assume that he still wants all 3.

4. Hit portal - I would think that we will be looking at a complete roster rebuild. Hopefully MJ can secure those elusive bigs that JJ was always missing out on. My gut tells me that MJ will have players reaching out to him from the portal with an interest to play here.

Anything else you guys can think of?

Probably not a popular opinion, but keeping Donahue on staff for his former role wouldn't be a terrible idea. There's a lot to running a D1 program beyond the X's and O's and having someone experienced that knows the current school and admin would be beneficial to MJ and help him concentrate on recruiting and coaching.

Real possibility of this happening.

If Donohue does not stay on staff, I would like to see him become the color analyst for radio or TV. He is actually pretty entertaining to listen to and is well spoken.

I woulnd't mind KD as DOBO and Robinson as the developer of bigs. There are lots of factors in why our team, including bigs struggled last night (partially being the started kicked off the team, moving everyone up a slot), but overall the bigs showed improvement over the course of the season. Odiahi came in a complete lost cause.

Jamal Is key and as I said when he was hired ....he can level up bigs because that is what he has done at the College and NBA level. He also knows how to evaluate 4/5 talent. He is local and frankly understands the mentality you need to develop bigs. DBOs are a dime a dozen but if KD sticks not all that bad as long as he has an open mind on change.

KD could be a good DBO, I just dont want him coaching. But that would be a big step down wouldnt it? Ive heard good things about Robinson. I just hope Coach Mike gets the guys he wants and doesn't feel any pressure to keep anyone or anything associated with JJ around.

Good to hear. Let’s actually get him some bigs to work with then, which I’m sure will happen.

Odiahi is the type of player, that JJ will take, when he can’t find anything left. Apparently he doesn’t like to whole scholarships. Just my thought.

No partial scholarships in FBS football or Division 1 basketball. Been that way since well….forever. Welcome to not just the 21st century, but the 20th too.

I think he meant “hold”, not “whole”. Typo.

I try to proof, sometimes I mistakenly forget the double spelling of a word, and quickly spell the wrong word. Such a screw-up.

Great info.

Had I knew this before, when I talked about the two young ODU young assistants, I would not have brought it up. In my day, we had three assistants and I would think they all could recruit. I don’t know NCAA rule updates, like you do. I wonder if the rules were changed earlier, to only have two assistant coaches recruiting and one couldn’t go out.
