Winning at CMU would do this team wonders heading into the off season. In fact, the only way to get the bad taste out of our mouths for having another awful season is a must win against CMU. Acuff will play.

FYI, Billingsley was 0-5 from 3 point in that game.03-lmfao … and won it for EMU!!

What a win! Proud of this team. Even when there was, essentially, nothing to play for, they went out and knocked off the best team in the league in their building without Tyson Acuff. 21.5 point underdogs. One of the more improbable upsets I can remember for EMU in either football or basketball. Cheers fellas!

Went flying in for that! And put it down with authority! He had the block on Freeman the previous possession too. What a finish from Billingsley.

Did you go with the under again by chance?

FYI, I think it was actually Osojnik that had the block on Freeman in their possession before the monster game winning putback by Billingsley. (The box score/recap has it wrong. Actually Geeter was the primary defender and Osojnik the help). In any case, Billingsley had a huge game! Just want to give some credit to Osojnik on the block.

Wow - look what almost happened after the putback dunk when we inbounded the ball with 1.7 seconds. Almost a TO on the inbound play that would have negated a great victory. Not trying to be negative because it was a GREAT victory but sheesh that was almost a steal and game winning layup by Akron!!

Beat CMU!!!

I am in the same boat. Luckey has been complaining about EMU’s inbound plays for the last 3 years (perhaps a legitimate complaint). We will be hearing about it the next 2 years too. Lol

Thanks for sharing this, Frank! This thing is blowing up a bit on the interwebs too. Always nice for a player to get that kind of recognition. And even better, good for the program/university too- free advertisement/name recognition. Thank you, Billingsley!!

If someone bet EMU to beat Akron last night, no points, straight bet:

https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaab-game...024/212558

In English, just about 18 : 1.

I think the only ones betting EMU are those who like the color green, eagles, etc.

Think about this for a minute:

Akron had pummeled us at home by 31 points with Acuff playing.
We just came off a 25-point loss at home to an ordinary Miami team.
EMU had no playoff hopes, no superstar, we were playing our next to last game, period.
Acuff's absence left us with one scholarship backcourt player.

This was not an upset, it was a MIRACLE!

Serven gives us a quality performance after being invisible against Miami.
Jihad, our "soft" frontcourt guy, gets eight boards, five offensive.
Our best offensive guys, Osojnik and Lovejoy don't shoot the ball well, but Arne get three steals and plays some very good D.

I don't bet on games, but if I did, I would have lost a bundle here. No way did I see this coming.

One last thing to share on this game. Coach Heath’s post game interview
https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continu...=emb_title

To respond to Jerry’s post above: I fully agree. But I will correct you it was only a 15 point loss to Miami. And I would add on Osojnik’s defensive performance that he had the block on Freeman on Akron’s last posession- without which “The Putback” would not have won the game.

Thanks for the math correction regarding Miami, Ramy. Also, you were on the J-Bill train long ago. I think this season has clearly proved that you were on point. He is clearly our most athletic frontcourt player and actually has a decent shooting stroke. Stan can play his "flavor of the week" with the rest of the bigs, but Jalin needs to play 30+ minutes for sure.

Well if I’m honest, I really thought we would win this game. Akrons front court is slow, unathletic, and play soft vs our big, strong, tenacious front court that plays fast and angry. LOL I thought for sure we would lose by 25 points :-)

LOL Ramy. The almost disastrous last second inbound play was mentioned by a poster from another school too. Stan - please clean that up :-)

Well, it was more of an ebb and flow progression for J Billingsley then I was expecting. But he is getting there and has finished the season very strong. Big men usually take longer to develop then guards- except some unusual cases like JT4 or Payton Sparks who come in fully formed as freshman. You never know when they are going to “figure it out”. But I could see the potential for Billingsley on a number of plays last year.

That said, Legend Geeter has developed tremendously as well- do you remember how bad he was at defense last year? (I never seen anyone literally fall on their butt so many times playing defense). Completely different this year. He was the primary defender on Freeman that allowed Osojnik to get the block on that last possession.

Let’s see next year. This frontcourt might be a strength for the team by then. (Partly because TyCuff is moving on, of course)
