Yes and Coach S is totally against any of those smaller tournaments. Realistically, if we cannot get into the NIT then it is better to concentrate on recruiting and getting better for next year.

And, looks like the NIT ain’t what it used to be as the below schools turned down invitations. Will auto NCAA conference champion bids eventually be eliminated to make room for more of these high-major teams?

Arizona State, California, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Stanford, Syracuse, UCLA, USC and Washington.

An analogy I might pose:

At large bid is like the House of Representatives. The bigger conferences get more “congressmen”.

Auto-bid is like the Senate. It ensures every conference gets at least some small representation in the big dance.

But obviously it’s not that simple. The one-bid conferences are losing their voices and voting power to money.Well, money is what runs the world and government, after all.

NCAA atnletics are so broken lol. Just let my dang team have something to play for.

If they eliminate the auto bids at some point for smaller conferences, I could see a bunch of schools maybe not eliminating basketball, but possibly looking to move down.

Teams like ETSU and UTC have been Division I for ages, but there are a lot of schools that have only moved to Division I in basketball within the last 20-30 years.

A ton of these former Division II and even Division III teams actually saw quite a lot of success at those levels, but it's been much more sporadic since then.
