I, uh… forgot it was going there. I was considering looking at going if my wife were interested in goin to Dallas.
But I forgot it was moving there. Definitely not going.
Yeah I’d be headed up to Dallas too if it were still there…
Ultimately Huntsville is the best location for the most schools, though certainly not a majority. It’s as good a central location as you can get. Too bad it’s in a completely unattractive city and state to travel to.
Hope it’s eventually moved to Nashville or Miami or Vegas.
Dallas? One of the most boring big cities in America. What else do you want to do other than watch basketball and go out to eat? Huntsville is a perfectly fine option for our tournament. If the tournament was in Nashville, Miami, or Vegas you wouldn't even know the tournament was happening. Huntsville will probably go all out to promote and support the tournament. I recommend you give it a shot especially since Sam Houston has a chance to win it. You never know, it could be years before Sam Houston is competitive again.
I wish it were closer but a 12-hour drive from Houston or a 10.5 hour drive from Huntsville, TX just isn't in the cards for a lot of us. I'm sure there will be some people there supporting the Kats but it's not as easily accessible as Dallas would be or even Vegas where you can get a $160 round trip plane ticket out of Houston. It's a great location for a solid portion of the conference but even New Orleans would be more doable for Sam Houston fans with that only being a 5.5 hour drive with a major airport and cheaper flights to get there. I'm sure Huntsville Alabama is a nice place but a lot of us wouldn't normally consider it a destination location especially if $$$ is tight for some fans. I hope we do well and if we see an NCAA berth then I may look at dishing out money to go since we haven't made it since 2010.
Edit* for those wondering for 1 passenger from Houston to Huntsville, Al an economy ticket during the tourney dates is going to run you $415, a main cabin seat is going to run $600.
I just found non stop from Houston on United for $293.
