MBB Game #29 vs. Stony Brook
.
Second meeting for the teams, with Stony Brook taking the contest, in Williamsburg, by a 63-59 score, behind 19 points and 6 rebounds from 6'2" Guard Dean Noll, the Cornell transfer. They also got double digit scoring from Stephenson-Moore and Maidoh.

This was yet another example of the one good half, one bad half Tribe. Down 9 at the Half, they made a run to make it close down the stretch, losing in OT. Tribe was led by 17 points from Shawn Haupt, off the bench, and a 14/12 double double from Caleb Dorsey.

Early 1:00 PM start makes for a quick turnaround and short recovery time. Will need another good defensive effort and try to find some consistent offense, somewhere.

Stony Brook is a big 8-point favorite against the Tribe today. Bettors have moved against the Seawolves slightly, as the game opened with the Seawolves as a 9.5-point favorite. The over/under is 139 points.

How many games has Charlie Williams played this year? Is he perhaps gunning for a medical redshirt at this point, based on only playing a certain percentage of the total games? Don’t mean to impugn anything…I know that sometimes concussions take a long time to resolve….but it has been a while since he played so perhaps he wants the medical redshirt.

Charlie played thru numerous injuries and shown lots of toughness

Has concussion and did not travel even

8 straight misses from 3, before Gabe's first hit. 3 of 19 from deep, overall.

As I said, I’m not impugning his character….just wondering if he qualifies for a medical redshirt.

A better man than me. I'd fake an injury just to avoid playing for this clown show.

Not good shooting. Currently 5-29 from 3 point and 8-24 inside the arch with our typical wild layup attempts

I quoted the last post of the UNCW topic here rather than bumping that topic up:

(02-23-2024 10:27 AM)TheRealTribe Wrote:  Agree that from a macro view we have been the poster boys for consistency. 7 straight losses. Losers of 11 out of 12.

Tribe is on a collision course with Hampton to decide last place in the CAA, and finish as one of the 20 worst D1 teams.

How this is viewed as acceptable is beyond me.
You're 329th (34th worst) in the NET, 335th (28th worst) in the RPI, and 325th (38th worst) in KenPom. If you do lose out, you could be among the worst 20. In addition to being in a below average conference, you played an easy nonconference schedule, and your SOS is 289th in the NET, and 292nd in KenPom.

Dane is being consistent in burning thru his timeouts as he uses his final with 1:27 left and down 8.

According to the NCAA rules, a player can't play in over half the games to qualify for a medical redshirt. Charley has played in 22 out of 29, so he can't qualify!!

RE: MBB Game #29 vs. Stony Brook
At this point in the season, I find myself in a terrible frame of mind about Tribe basketball, one I’m sure I’ve never felt before…and I’m coming clean.

While I respect and appreciate the players who have toughed out a difficult season thus far, I now find myself hoping we lose our last three games. We’ll have finished on an 11-game losing streak, winning one of our last 16, and hopefully leaving the administration no choice but to move on from the current situation.

If that happens, I also hope our players will stick around to play for a new coach (I know, I’m naive) and prove they’re a lot better playing in an offense besides what they’ve been playing in for the last four years.

I’m sure Dane’s a nice guy, and I hope his basketball fortunes improve in the future. But I’m a nice guy, too, and know I don’t belong anywhere near a D-1 head coaching job.

Jay said on the broadcast they were flying home from LaGuardia tonight, getting home pretty late. Did something happen?

He has played in 21 games with 16 starts. Doesn’t come close to meeting medical red shirt rules.
