Malcolm Dandridge to sit against FAU, allegedly involved in academic scandal.

"Memphis basketball will be missing one of its biggest pieces in perhaps its biggest game of the season.

The Tigers will be without fifth-year senior Malcolm Dandridge when they take on Florida Atlantic inside FedExForum Sunday afternoon (1 p.m., ESPN). The 6-foot-9 center is averaging 8 points and 5 rebounds per game this season.

Sources tell Bluff City Media that Dandridge is allegedly involved in an academic scandal that’s currently being investigated by Memphis’ compliance department, which is why he’ll be absent from this weekend’s game. Head coach Penny Hardaway and staff were reportedly informed of the investigation earlier this week, and have thoroughly complied thus far. Other men’s basketball players and athletes from other sports could also be involved, according to sources.

Hardaway’s program has already been involved in two NCAA investigations in his six-year tenure. The first was in 2019 when Memphis played 5-star freshman James Wiseman despite being advised not to by the NCAA due to eligibility concerns. This triggered an investigation of the entire program, which was later charged with four Level I violations in March 2022, including a Lack of Institutional Control charge against Hardaway. The IARP, however, opted to soften Memphis’ penalties in October 2022. And the Tigers ultimately received three years of probation and no postseason ban.

But the program earned a fourth year of probation after Hardaway was suspended for three games earlier this season due to a recruiting violation, which was triggered after he and a former assistant illegally visited a Texas high school recruit in 2022.

Memphis is handling this latest matter internally as of now, but a possible third NCAA incident in six seasons would maybe prove devastating for Hardaway’s tenure."

It is not just him, this will impact other players on the team and possible other sports as well.

The good news is the University is leading the investigation and will self-report any findings to the NCAA. The bad news is that the basketball program is already under probation.

We can’t have nice things. The season is in the balance, and now this. What a bad time to have this going on.

Did a teacher give him a grade or something, that wasn’t supposed to be? ACT score wrong like Derrick Rose? What is going on with these teachers? Someone needs to explain what this is about? I’m not understanding. This isn’t making sense yet.

What makes this even more ridiculous is that I bet my homeschooling work to my 5 year old is more challenging than the classes some of these kids are taking so they can play college ball lmao. was Malcolm flunking Sports Management Theory 1101 and TV??

Hoping Malco is the only bball player and not others. But as others have mentioned, other student athletes for the M might also be involved in the investigation. We shall see.

This could result in post season bans resulting in our entire program tanking

I’ll ask again. What is a faculty member doing this for? If they did a grade coverup, then they knew the circumstances of it. It has been reported that it has hit Penny and the staff in the blind side for the moment. If he didn’t know any of this, then it can’t be no penalties on the program. They’ll have to punish the person/faculty who done it.

We've been on probation for years, when you continue to have violations including academic fraud within our program this is what happens.

Penny literally was suspended this year and couldn't even finish it without having some new scandal break the internet. This isn't even mentioning James Wisemen just a few years ago.. or how just as a program all the way back in 08' with Rose even without Penny..

Penny has now road the coattail of our horrific cheating stigma in 08 and made it Next Gen!

Just when I thought the season couldn't get any worse... it does...

With a post season ban we won't even be able to say "maybe next year"... jesus christ..

Just to think... it felt like yesterday we were top 10... now this

And MALCOMB is the so-called, team leader. I guess the big Russian will have his way.

What a train wreck. There was some smoke on this earlier this week. If the other smoke proves to be true, and certain other players are involved, Penny is cooked
