Why is that a problem?

Or looked at another way, who is that a problem for?

And does anyone (anyone in television) care about solving their problems?

You could have a four team playoff among the G5 champs that don't make the CFP. Nobody would care or watch though. Check the ratings for when ESPN matches the Sun Belt champ vs the MAC champ.

It’s a problem because the fact of the matter is that the G5 aren’t really playing at the same level as the rest of FBS. They are grouped in with Ohio St and Alabama but their programs are nothing like them. This is only going to be exacerbated by the continued pressure to provide more and more compensation to student athletes. The little guys simply can’t afford to compete.

So call a spade a spade and award a national championship to the best team operating at the G5 level. Give them something to aspire to that’s more gratifying than getting blown out on the road on a Friday night in mid-December. ...

How many schools over the past 20 years have moved from FBS to FCS to get a national championship at their own level, and how many have moved away from getting a national championship at their own level to joining FBS despite not being for practical purposes in the same tier as OSU / Bama or even UNC / Baylor.

They moved up to leech off FBS money.
