(You keep talking about ND somehow "breaking rules" that do not exist)

ND hasn't been 3-9 since 2007. Its record is 73-17 since 2016.

It has never qualified for the playoffs or a bowl berth at 3-9.

Want to make up more stuff?

(I think that ND will be okay, playoff wise, going forward)

ND's worst case scenario in conference realignment is that it may be forced to join the Big Ten and make $100 million a year.

That is the most dreaded option for ND, one that it does not want at all and hopes to avoid.

But, if that is the worst thing that can happen to it, ND somehow will be okay in the long run. Agree?

(Does it bother you, somehow, that ND has options that other non-P2 schools don't ?)

I was reading through the material that UNC assembled to look at options and their study projected the Big 10 at 105 million in 2029 and the SEC at 118 million. Perhaps you should go with your 2nd worst option.07-coffee3

Folks want Notre Dame to join a P2 conference? Stop the unique enabling. ND is essentially running the ACC now. Oh, the days and promises of the old Big East are not fully forgotten by all. ND has a near ideal set-up for themselves. The ACC in particular, the BIG, of course NBC, ESPN, FOX, and the SEC somewhat, bowl sponsors, playoff organizers and committees, sports media commentators, are all ND enablers. Any relevant governance body among power-level schools, ND is included with the voice level and voting power of a P-type Commissioner representing 16-18 schools.

Pressuring ND, though they relish in it, to join a P-conference needs to cease. Instead, stop handing them bushels of expensive organic carrots. ND is too clever for the fruitless efforts at manipulation. ND will approach the P2 when the fruits of special treatment are significantly diminished. Let them call the P2 when the incentive comes.
Heh, heh! They shouldn't have been named the Fighting Irish. They are much more like "the Flying Dutchman" in effect.

Except the Dutch are proud Protestants (at least historically). 01-lauramac2

Die Fliegende Hollander is the sole survivor of the cursed crew and ship the Flying Dutchman who is rescued from the waves by another ship which then falls under teh curse and is doomed with the same man becoming the soul survivor of that wreck as well. His recues from the eternally changing sea go on and on and he remains the sole survivor of each rescuing ships' sinking. The Big East, the ACC, whose next? Perhaps if the join the upper tier, it too sinks. We all should be wary of N.D. membership or affiliate membership.

LOL, Terry D! I was attempting to kill the pursuit of the Irish by summoning the subconscious fears of the hopeful fans of the those in pursuit of your school! Beyond this point there be dragons!

ND has no interest in trying to "stop" the P2 from happening, especially since it already has happened.

It just doesn't want to be a full member of any conference, P2 or otherwise.

I think that might especially be the case in the event of a P2 breakaway that separates academics from athletics.

I am not convinced the good Holy Cross Fathers that run ND want any part of that.

My guess is that there is an ongoing serious discussion about it at ND, between the business related Board members and other lay boosters who want ND to be in the top tier and the priests running ND who may recoil from it.

Heck, you almost convinced me to support ND joining a P2 conference, just so it could do exactly that.

"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of Conferences"

Works for me.
