Game Day UL Monroe
Well, EMU is a 6 point underdog on the road to UL Monroe (#307 NET Ranking). This is a dismal state of affairs.
EMU is coming a very one of their best performances of the season in their near upset of Toledo. If they can repeat that shooting performance, they will pickup the win. But ‘79 mentioned in a different thread that UL Monroe has height which usually gives EMU trouble (ie, Toledo plays small).
Go EMU!!

Anyone watching the telecast? These announcers are great- not homers at all. And love the way the old guy talks- he has got some kind of old school Louisiana accent.

Yeesh, EMU is shooting 7-11 from 3 point, and still find themselves down 10 points at half time. EMU is only 5-20 from 2 point range, so maybe that height that ‘79 mentioned is indeed causing us trouble. The front court is a combined 1-9.
It was a good half for the most part, with EMU taking the lead at one point late. But things fell apart quick at the end of the half.

Dear RamyEMU,
Yes, Eastern down by ten. 43-33. Not a good sign from previous games, with similar results.

RamyEMU, Acuff has hit 7 3's........Hopefully, we can find a way to win......UL Monroe as you said is ranked #307th....Very winnable game.......It appears we're going to lose, but when Two players score 51 points, Acuff 29, Osojnik 22, it's ashame we couldn't win......

EMU is so bad when rebounds are contested. We really need Ellerbe back. Is he hurt? Off the team?

Ha, Yes! I was thinking Forest Gump. But My Cousin Vinny fits too.

Arena looked impressive, the crowd, however, was sparse.

Barnes/Boone/Ramsey/Murphy and now Heath. After the brilliance of Braun has any university had worse luck with their basketball coaching hires? I really thought Heath could get it done but Jeez Louise!

Uncle Milti got to the NCAA tourney in his second year, something that Todd K from Toledo has never done. Former Ann Arbor News sportswriters thought he was a winning coach but was a "walking NCAA violation". Coaching HS in Jackson, MI presently.
Boone was an abject disaster, no two ways about it. Took over a 15-13 team from Barnes, went 3-25 with it and had the temerity to claim that he "quadrupled" the win total when he left with a 12-18 record. What a clown, he is the father of the downward trajectory of EMU basketball.
Ramsey was Stan Heath version 1.0. Nice guy, just did not have what it takes. Coaching Ypsilanti HS today.
As much as I hate to admit it, Rob Murphy did a credible job. Played an incredible version of boring basketball, did not truly develop or improve players, underperformed with the talent he had, BUT he did recruit, and his scholarship misses moved on. Pranger and Randle would not be on Murph's team today, Martynov, Serven and others would be escorted to the exit door after this season as well.
At the end of the day, I wanted a MBB coach gone after ten seasons that had a MAC record of 76-82, sans the 2020 Covid season. That winning percentage is 48%. Our football coach, by contrast has a record during the same time of 29-43 and a winning percentage of just 40%.
Was I too harsh on Rob?

Dear Friends,
I was watching the Akron game, and if they are one of the best teams in the MAC, Eastern must really stink. James Madison is supposed to be a good team, and I think they are outplaying Akron, but my point being Akron is not really playing very well, and if they can't hang with James Madison, the MAC is bad.
Dear Jerry,
No, you are not being too harsh, in my opinion, Eastern needs to hire a coach like they did with Ben Braun. Stop going after assistants at larger schools, and bring in a smaller college coach that is hungry to prove himself.

You were not harsh enough on Rob. Unless his style was allowing Eastern to win big, which it didn't, all he did was turn off a generation of basketball fans. His dour personality and lack of involvement in the community was the dagger. I think Heath seemed to be the perfect hire to get fans and alumni back onboard, unfortunately it certainly appears that he was washed up.

Side note: I was watching USF vs Pepperdine the other night and Ben Braun was doing the color commentary. He sounded great, was engaging, and did a fantastic job. He had stories about his days at EMU and Cal. The man is just a winner in life. God, we were fortunate to have him.

Only 2 mac teams won today both by one point. Not a very good showing. auto correct is very annoying. It will offer a word (it thinks I use that term loosely. AI doesn't thinks.) You mean and unless you tell it no it will use that word. I
miss wrote teams and wrote taems it came up with the teme and switched it. It does this to me a lot. I know the words I just can't spell them correctly.

The MAC is really bad, Ken. Perennial powers like Toledo, Kent and Ohio are a shell of themselves this year. That said, Akron, by my eye test can be dangerous. Freeman just had an off game, and he is an absolute stud. Best MAC team since Oats' Buffalo edition in my opinion. Watch them prove me wrong. LOL.
I cannot agree with you more about coaching hires. The MAC has last been a true launching pad to the power conferences but that ended at least five years ago. Oats and Fleck killed it then, but today, Candle, Martin, Todd K, Groce, McElwain, Creighton and Sendek are on the list of potential big program hires only in sportswriters' heads instead of the power program's AD's. Leipold and Carey might take a crappy job late, but otherwise the MAC is a dead end unless you leave to be a coordinator like Lewis did.
Thus, the field of power conference assistants is not at all fertile. None of the best and the brightest want to be Frank Solich. A guy from a small school like Sienna Hats, however, might want to be the next coach at EMU. You are totally on point Ken.
