stAte wound up with 36 new players. Ranked first by Rivals. Second by 24/7. Third by On3. How did y'all do. I guess only time will tell.

All I know is with NIL players are getting a lot less money in G5 than they think/tell people they are going to get.

RE: 2024 recruiting.
Two major recruiting news this week.

1) Dennis Scott III, the son of a NBA legend Dennis Scott II, committed to Georgia State which made news in sports radio in Atlanta. He's a 6'10 220lbs big who can fill either 4 or stretch 5. His ability to make 3s and mid-range shots are the x-factor that increases his scoring threat beyond the paint. With how thin GSU is in the front court, he may be able to earn major minutes right away as a true freshman. (247 may have given him a placeholder 80 rating until a proper evaluation, which may have lowered his composite ranking)

Scouting Report: "Dennis Scott III is a big and burly center and the son of former NBA player Dennis Scott II. Like his father, Scott III can really make shots from three, making for a stretch-five that can hit spot jumpers and operate in pick-and-pop scenarios. Two areas for improvement with Scott III revolve around getting in better shape and improving his mobility, which should go hand in hand."

2) Jason Jackson recently decommitted from both Ole Miss and Texas Tech one after another, and perhaps he's ready to be a Panther right in his backyard in Atlanta. The athleticism on the court is undisputed, as he may be the highest rated recruit ever in GSU basketball history. With his explosive ability to cut and slash to the basket, he's going to draw attention from defenders when he has the ball, whether that frees up others for assists or create something himself. For the old SBC fans, Dmarcus Simonds would be an apt comparison in his size and abilities.

Scouting Report: "He’s a lengthy two guard who has tremendous burst and explosion when going to the rim and he makes just enough jumpers to keep defenders honest. His body should really explode in the weight room, and he’s got all the tools to be a high end defender in the Big 12 who can lock up from one through three."

Noticed the Holy Cross guys arriving with Chesney! Quite a few ACC players transferring in too. This one caught my eye:

Terry Lockett Jr. | Defensive Lineman | 6-3 | 268 | Springfield, Mass. | Syracuse
Has two seasons of eligibility remaining
Spent three seasons at Syracuse (2021-23), redshirting 2022 season
Played in 26 career games with 10 starts for the Orange
In time at SU, tallied 45 tackles with five TFL, two sacks and three fumble recoveries
Led ACC and finished sixth nationally with three fumble recoveries in 2023
Has two years of eligibility, having spent three seasons at Syracuse (2021-23)

There are three...feel like one more is due? Either way - all of them are seniors and no graduate program to go to - we are not raiding HC, just getting the best of what's left with one year of eligibility[/b] :)

It seems like there are constant announcements and signing days...these days...

11 from Dec
https://jmusports.com/news/2023/12/20/jm...ntent.aspx

Personally...stoked to see these two play:

Nakai Poole | Wide Receiver | 6-3 | 198 | Norcross, Ga. | Mississippi State
Has four seasons of eligibility remaining, redshirting 2023 season at Mississippi State
Scored 22 career receiving touchdowns at Norcross High School (GA)
Had 803 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a senior and 703 yards and 11 scores as a junior

Ayo Adeyi | Running Back | 5-7 | 197 | Mansfield, Texas | North Texas
Has one season of eligibility remaining
Spent three seasons at North Texas (2021-23)
Spent one season at Division II Harding University in Arkansas (2020)
Rushed for 2,230 yards and 16 touchdowns at UNT, averaging 6.8 yards per carry
Ran for 1,017 yards and six scores in 2023, earning Second Team All-American Athletic Conference honors

GSU arguably has the most talented basketball roster in the Sun Belt... they need to figure out how to get it all to gel. They could make a sweet run, and their fan support when they are really good is top-notch.

Which will always be a flaw in the system if you sort by total points a big class will rank higher than a good class. When sorted by average stars they drop off quite a bit.

PS: You say 36 new players which counts transfers, but you only listed the ranking from the prep commits. On Rivals they are #3 in comprehensive team rankings points, and #8 by average stars, with Marshall #1 either way you look at it.

To be honest, idk about the most talent part. Georgia State lost all starters and experienced depth after the 2022 NCAA tourney run. It was hard reset when Jonas Hayes took over the program in 2023. I think most are being patient toward Coach Hayes while he's building a roster to call his own.

But you're absolutely right that it's up to the coaches find ways compete with the guys on his current roster.

In our 36 25 are high schoolers. Jones .said he isn't looking to win and then run off but win and grow with young players. He wants to be at stAte a long time. If he doesn't start winning don't really want him a long time and if he does win....we'll see.

Rather have a coach stolen than left on the vine. So as long as he's winning just enjoy the ride.

Marshall is actually #1 on Rivals. The OP is citing the Rivals HS player only ranking. This is a link to their comprehensive ranking that also takes in transfer portal players.

https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2024/...prehensive

It wasn’t really close. Marshall led in total points, average stars per recruit and signed more three stars as any other two teams combined.

With that said, it doesn’t really matter if they don’t perform.

Arkansas State is actually #1 on 247 also after AJ Wallace was added to the list. He is the top rated recruit at 88 overall.

In regards to Marshall, it is about different strategies. Jones has increased the number of HS recruits (and decreased transfers) every year, as the roster gets healthier. A team that needs more immediate help tends to hit the portal more. Except for TXST, as it is their overall strategy.

That is, again, High School only. The overall on 247 is USM, then Marshall, then TX ST. stAte is 6th.

Yeah, according to Rivals, Marshall had the #10 transfer class in the country and the number 100 HS class. When you take less you naturally end up with a lower score.
