ESPN, Fox, and Warner Team Up to Create Sports Streaming Platform
https://www.wsj.com/business/media/fox-w...e-c9836792

Quote:ESPN, Fox Corp.and FOX 0.55%increase; green up pointing triangle Warner Bros. Discovery WBD 0.00%increase; green up pointing triangle are teaming up to create a supersize sports-streaming service that will offer content from all major leagues, a deal that will reshape the sports and media landscape.

The as-yet-unnamed service will be offered directly to consumers, who would be able to stream all of these companies’ sports content, the companies said in a statement, following a report in The Wall Street Journal about the new venture.

Each of the companies will have one-third ownership of the new service, which is expected to launch in the fall. The companies didn’t announce pricing.

The chief executives of Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney—ESPN’s DIS 2.73%increase; green up pointing triangle majority owner—said the new offering would increase choice for fans and give a new sports-centric service to those who have cut the cord to traditional pay-TV.

Here is a better article from TheVerge...

https://www.theverge.com/2024/2/6/240640...artnership

Quote:It is poised to have sports networks including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNews, ABC, FOX, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, and truTV. The new service will air games from the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL), along with NASCAR, PGA Tour Golf, Grand Slam Tennis, and more. Disney Plus, Hulu, and Max users will also get the option to bundle the new service.

Going after Youtube TV and non-aligned cord cutters.

Not a bad idea, but I'm shocked they are working together. Will this conglomeration pass antitrust muster?

Lets see what they price it at ... I have YouTube TV already and their multi-view is a great addition ... but it is indeed getting super pricey.

It reads to me like the service will only have major professional sports like NFL, NBA and MLB. But it also states that the SEC network and ACC network will be included. Those two assertions do not add up.

Unsure how this got moved here. This directly affects how we will be able to watch Tiger games in the future. No longer need to subscribe to a cable provider to watch ESPN channels.

According to the description of the forum you moved the post to, this forum is: "For informational posts regarding non-sports related topics that aren't covered by the other forums here"

This post was certainly sports-related, and also Tiger related.

Looks like it's every major player outside of NBC and CBS. I wonder how the sports side of Peacock and Paramount+ are doing.

Replacing ESPN+?
Sounds to me like the same content found today on all of those channels listed. That is, the NFL games are the ones already carried by FOX and ESPN. Same with college content.
But what does that mean for all the conference games found on E+?
Anti-trust price fixing does seem tricky.

Probably replacing the ESPN+ subscription, but the content will be on this new service. It's like the Hulu of sports content. Hulu originally had content from Fox, NBC Universal (Comcast), and Disney. They had their own services, but you could content from all those companies on the service. This looks to be similar. If you don't want a full live TV subscription and only care about sports it will be a great addon. I predict that each owner will also integrate it into their existing services, like Hulu is doing with ESPN+ now and Max is doing with NBA on TNT.

Why did this get moved out of the main forum. This is very much tiger related.

Yeah, not sure. Definitely shouldn't have been moved.

Yeah, not sure. Definitely shouldn't have been moved.

It certainly shouldn't be in the Charles Harris Memorial People's Forum; because it's SPORTS related.
