On the post game radio show both JQ and DJ stated Penny called that play. It was a set play they practice called “tug”. Might be splitting hairs FWIW.

Looked like he drew it up on TV. But he could have been drawing up what Stansbury was saying. Who cares ?? 07-coffee3

I was seating close to the bench today.. I heard when Stansbury called that play to Penny.. players are not gonna create tension between coaches telling folks in the radio it was Stansbury!.. They know better.

Seems like a great combo. Penny recruits (and hopefully learns more about Xs and Os), while RS draws up the plays.

This is how things should have been from Penny’s 1st day as coach. But as others have said, who cares? Just win.

Saw the Iowa State-Baylor game tonight and in crunch time an Iowa State assistant (must have been an offensive coach) drew up two separate plays at the end of the game with time under 20 seconds.

Absolutely agree. There are times when Penny’s free-wheeling offense is good but there are also times when you need some set plays.

Agree but think the defense, the lack of it, is the real issue.
This helter- skelter/40 mins of hell approach isn't working with this personnel, especially with Mills gone. Quickness is diminished & the desire seems lacking. It leaves perimeter shooters wide open & we aren't in position to rebound. With this personnel group, just play a tight man (like we did in the last 5 mins yesterday). We have better coverage & rebound better

Yeah I agree the scramble defense we were playing doesn’t fit the personnel we have. That’s why the approach on offense has to be different. The 2 things go hand in hand. If we aren’t able to play hectic defense and create a bunch of turnovers + transition points, we have to be able to score other ways.

Lost in JQ’s poor shooting performance were his 8 assists yesterday. Big improvement over 2 assists vs USF and 3 vs UAB. I don’t think JQ scoring points is necessarily a requirement for this team— it’s more of a bonus.

The two feeds to a cutting Jourdain in the last 4 minutes were things of beauty.
