RE: Ref for Wichita st game
Admittedly so. However I personally watch the effect of Zebras on any given game. It's just one more aspect of the game.
But yes, just a small aspect at this moment. But we have a history with a number of refs. Some help our odds of winning and in at least one case we are 1-7 when that ref is in the court.
So like every little thing, it's still a thing.
Thanks

The Hardaway boys, they seem to be the go-to for blame game at the moment. So we can start there.

RE: Ref for Wichita st game
As an example of why I find ref matchups interesting, here's the record of Memphis and Wichita St. when certain refs are on the floor.
Easily, I hope not to see Cassell, George, Heimerman, Kissinger, or Pollard.
And no, I don't blame refs. They all call games differently and its how the team adjusts to the how the ref calls a game. So they are just another "team" to prepare for.
Teams Memphis Wichita St.
Cassell, Lee 3-7 (0.300) 3-1 (0.750)
Daily, Don 18-7 (0.720) 21-2 (0.913)
Felder, Robert 2-3 (0.400) 7-2 (0.778)
Ferrie, Brad --- 6-1 (0.857)
George, Darron 0-4 (0.000) 6-4 (0.600)
Heimerman, R 7-4 (0.636) 12-1 (0.923)
Hess, Karl 2-6 (0.250) 4-0 (1.000)
Higgins, John 2-4 (0.333) 13-4 (0.765)
Kissinger, Kipp 0-4 (0.000) 8-1 (0.889)
Oglesby, Terry 9-8 (0.529) 11-5 (0.688)
Pollard, Gerry 6-4 (0.600) 11-1 (0.917)
Steed, Zelton 9-4 (0.692) 13-2 (0.867)
Williams, Gerald 3-2 (0.600) 11-0 (1.000)

I wish I had this much extra time in my life. Kudos to you, sir, but like already said, whoever the refs are the least of our concerns right now..

RE: Ref for Wichita st game
Also being an amateur stats man for fun is an odd mindset. But again, I am OLD!
So more crazy ref and foul trivia.
But the fascination with refs goes to homecourt advantage. Even Kenpom shows that the only true homecourt advantage is in the foul advantage. Thus the zebras make or break that advantage.
For Memphis the advantage is usually 4 to 5 fewer fouls than their opponents.
Home games
Memphis had only 1 fewer foul than Rice, so homecourt advantage nullified
Memphis had no foul advantage against South Florida so homecourt advantage nullified
Away games
Memphis had 6 more fouls than UAB or double UAB's normal advantage
Memphis had only 1 more foul than Tulane so around Tulane's normal advantage
At Wichita St, Memphis had 7 more fouls than Wichita St., however Memphis shared the ball (25 assists) and caused 18 TOs while committing only 10. So here, Memphis negated homecourt advantage by just playing superior team ball!!

Losers blame referees
Well of course. No winning team is going to say the other team got robbed. But refs do matter, no?
And I've seen nothing in this thread that says Chief is blaming refs for our woes of late - in fact he says the opposite.
Just some interesting numbers. Ya'll don't have to complain about EVERY post, do you? Well, unless you truly are a Miserable.
