Former BGSU star, and Oregon, OH native, Kate Achter may be well on her way to being named the Horizon League’s women’s coach of the year in her first year as head coach at the University of Detroit Mercy. UDM’s 14 wins already this season are four more than the team won the last four seasons when it went a combined 10-94.

The program was left in the ashes in 2021 when the players, and many of their parents, revolted against then head coach Ann Marie Gilbert alleging bullying and even inhumane treatment by her leading to the cancelation of the last 10 games of the season and Gilbert’s eventual firing. Gilbert was also the head coach at EMU, 2007-2012, leaving after allegations of rules violations and a two-year NCAA coaching ban.

That never should happen, where is the administrative safeguards ?
