Mike Martin passed away
All time winningest NCAA baseball coach. Retired just a couple years ago and had been suffering from progressive dementia. Class guy who really loved the sport and was a friend to all.

Heck of a coach, prayers to his family and the Noles baseball community.

A truly great baseball coach and ambassador. I watched him coach a double header in his first season as FSU's head coach. His reputation in the industry was stellar. Sympathies to his family, Florida State Baseball fans, and college baseball fans in general. I know it wasn't a tradition when he got started, but somebody ought to sing Oh Canada at his funeral along with Take Me Out to the Ball Game. He was missed already!

Only? I'll be glad if I got that many revolutions around the sun. That's a good life.

Played baseball for FSU, was an assistant coach for FSU and then got the head coach position for about 30+ years. When I heard this today I was very sad over it.

I was really hoping MMjr wouid have worked out and coached 30 years for FSU, but the shoes were too big to fill. Mike Martin had the same charm as Bobby Bowden, so sad to see them both gone.

He was an institution at FSU, and in college baseball generally. The only coach with 2000 wins.

RIP

What a great career he had, I remember the first time I got into the College World Series watching one of his teams battle the Gators in Omaha. Rest in peace Coach Martin, hope you and Bobby are having a great time up there!

So sad.

I remember when he replaced Dick Howser as FSU coach. He created his own legend.

RIP.

Sad news. It's hard to imagine a college baseball world without him in it somehow.

Of all his enormous achievements, IMO the greatest is making the NCAA tournament all 40 years that he was the head coach. That is just mind-boggling.
