NIU led pretty much the entire game until last 4.5 mins. Another 2nd half collapse. Burno is showing he can't coach in his 3rd season. 10 straight losses and still can't get this team to show up or close out in 2nd half of games.

Another loss at home for Kent State. They are tied with Ball State at 3-6 for the 8/9 spots. CMU 7-2 in solid 3rd position. BGSU 4th at 6-3. Akron and Toledo 1 and 2. Miami, WMU, Ohio are 5/6/7 at 5-4.

Imagine where CMU would be if it hadn't lost its MAC opener at home to Buffalo.

They're certainly better. I still think Akron and Toledo are a cusp above. UT averages like 80 a game. They've smashed 3 teams in a row since losing in Mt Pleasant and shot 50% plus in those. The 32% they shot at CMU won't happen in Savage when they meet the 2nd time.

I think Miami, CMU, and BG are the next 3 squads. Ohio, WMU and BSU battling for the final spots. Kent looks dead right now...

With the elimination of the NIT auto-bid, it's really hard for me to get excited about the MAC regular season. Akron would probably have to win out (outside of losing in the MAC tournament) to have any hope of making the NIT. Toledo likely has no pathway to making the NIT so its NCAA tournament or bust for them.

I wonder if the next tourney down, whether it's Vegas, the CIT, or CBI will be a better tourney now with lots of 20+ win mid majors? Syndicates have been saying to boycot the NIT as it's a P6 beauty contest now anyways. I wouldn't be surprised if the next tourney is better in quality.

I hadn't realized the NIT had changed so much. And man, they have some wild **** planned!

Quote:In addition to the NIT's change in selections format, the NIT board and NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee have agreed to use experimental rules during the 2024 NIT. In each NIT game, the free-throw lane will be widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, consistent with the width used by the NBA and the International Basketball Federation, known as FIBA.

NIT games also will continue to use the 2023 NIT modified timeout format for the second half of games, which eliminates the second-half floating media timeout by making it one of five media breaks. Second-half media timeouts will occur on the first stoppage of play after the 17-, 14-, eight- and four-minute marks.

The new selection process:
Quote:the NIT will guarantee two teams (based on the NET rankings) from each of six conferences (Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and Southeastern). The top two teams in the NET rankings not qualifying for the NCAA men's basketball tournament from each conference, regardless of win-loss record, will be selected. Additionally, the 12 teams automatically selected will be guaranteed the opportunity to host a game in the first round of the NIT.
NIT announces changes to tournament selection format

NIU finally gets a win and no longer winless in conference play.

First win vs D1 opponent in last 14 tries.

Amos and true freshman Lovings-Watts got this team the win.

No offense, or all offense... how do you draw 3x for a conference game vs. a team who isn't a traditional power. Toledo draws better for BG no doubt, but from 4,500 to 7300 makes sense. 3k to 9k is wild. They need to be there more often!

Miami on a Saturday with students back in the formula. The team had poor non-conference showing and slow start to MAC schedule. Bobcats have played better last couple weeks. nice weather helped too. 9,000 plus great number a MAC team. Miami game always the big game of the year. If alumni go to one game a year that is usually it.

Keep it up. Having over a thousand students will change games in the Bobcats favor.

All of these are factors in addition to it being Sibs Weekend. That was a big boost to attendance, to be sure.

Congrats on the win.

And while I like BG's new coach and the apparent quick turnaround of a dumpster fire, his late half and game coaching decisions have been glaring. His use, or non-use, of timeouts or calling them way too late in the game clock have been noticeable. I've also noticed in two different games now where he's not used fouls to give to prevent the opponent from easily running the clock down to get the shot they want.

Huskies win again, this time over Miami on the road.

NIU with a little two-game win streak going. Far too late in the season now to show life but better than all the losing.
