At some point, the Penny experiment has to end
The season’s change but the results do not.

Year 6 & we’re still watching dysfunctional basketball & broken teams. Last year, he had Kendrick, & Kendrick led his team. This year, the team is again rudderless. Stansbury looks miserable. Penny looks lost… and the team has quit.

This program needs leadership.

RE: At some point, the Penny experiment has to end
I was trying to come up with a list of players/excuses that are Penny scape goats over the years:

Martin
Emoni
Nolley
Jones
the NCAA
his hurt tooth

I’m sure there are more. The blame is never on him

This post is extreme. As long as we are making the tournament I'd hold thoughts like this to myself. Don't get me wrong...I'm not happy abt living in bubble land, but as long as we are making the tournament, we'll be fine.

He has been in position long enough to develop into a leader; and he just isn’t capable. He has ideas & a good basketball mind, but he’s indecisive, & more concerned with approval than making difficult decisions. Penny is a pleaser and will never be the leader the program needs. Its time to cut bait.

Right now? Three straight losses to sub 100 net/Kenpom teams? This is not a going to the tournament team.

Its not ideal. Its not going in the right direction. But right now firing the coach talk is a little too early

seems to me the difference between these two teams. UAB has a well traveled experienced coach and the Tigers have an ICON.

The administration isn't going to fire Penny. As long as they're bringing in money, who cares. I don't think they care about "on field" performance as long as everyone is happy. And if the Tigers make the tournament, then everything is okay (even in reality, they're not)!!!

I think, at some point, the people paying the NIL’s are going to stop.

I don't think we are there yet, are we? He still has a good record and unless the bottom falls out he should make the tournament again this year. This year has taken a turn in the wrong direction since the new year for sure. We have got to get back on track. Make the tournament and see what happens. There is no juggernaut in the field this year, anybody can make a run.

In post-game? Did he take any accountability at all?

Not that I heard. He said the staff gives them all the answers & sets them up for success & then they go out & ignore them. They play with no effort & aren’t mentally tough. He has no plans to watch the film because he knows what the problem is.

That’s what I’m thinking, too. Not just the NILs but the salaries and the basketball donations and so on. At some point they may want to see some sort of ROI for their money.

Yeah, it's not like the university will up and get rid of the coach because people stop coming to the games and writing checks to the scholarship fund...that would never happen to us...

And now with NIL, Penny's best characteristic is no longer valid. We could go scoop up the best XO coach possible and throw the same NIL behind him since recruiting isn't a thing anymore. With Penny all we have is great NIL and no coach.
