Disagree. The sad part is this is arguably Pera's most talented team. His offensive and defensive scheming is simply poor. The offense does not flow, and never has under Pera. Totally reliant on 1-on-1 drives and contested 3's. And it's not clear what the heck he's doing on defense, but it just doesn't work.

It looks like, to me, that our guys just can't keep up. The other team always appears to be more athletically gifted.

The 3 Owls who take the bulk of the shots, over the past 2 games:

Evee 5/26 (19.2%)
Mason 11/30 (36.7%)
Huseinovic 10/25 (40.0%)

That's a combined 26/81 (32.1%)

They've taken 62% of the team's shots.

The rest of the team is 26/51 (51.0%).

They really miss quincy cam and Jake. Agree...

RE: MBB vs Tulsa
Tulsa had the right game plan to exploit the Owls weaknesses. They drove to the hoop constantly and when rice collapsed inside they easily dished it out to their 3-point shooters who cashed in on a regular basis. Tulsa still almost managed to lose the game due to some awful ball handling on their part at critical times and some inconsistent free throw shooting. The referees clearly missed several blatant fouls…..one on Evee on a drive to the basket where he was pounded to the ground and stayed there while the Golden Hurricane used their numbers to hit a wide open three at the other end of the court (a 5 point swing in Tulsa’s favor). The non-calls at the end on the lob to the basket was also reprehensible on the part of the refs. Anthony Seldon is earning more playing time due to his play off the bench but Sam Alajiki was not suited up for the game (knee injury?).

The team is not quitting, they are close but cannot close, which is really troubling.

On the bright side, there was a good crowd at the game, including a strong turnout by Tulsa fans. There was plenty of energy in the building. Cobe Williams is a really good player and he set the tone for Tulsa. He is a lot of fun to watch. I think the renewed rivalry between the two teams will be good for Rice and Tulsa fans.

Okay, then that makes sense. I don't pay too close of attention to who is out. I just watch the game. That explains the lack of substitutions. Maybe we did okay considering the lack of a bench, but our guys will have to conquer their shooting slump. It's awful. At times like this, I wish we worked harder for the higher percentage shots, instead of chunking 3-pointers from downtown, and giving up possession. Every single shot matters when you stink, I mean, when you're slumping. Points.

A question for Rice fan - what’s up with your coach? Do you think the league will fine him for his behavior at the end of the game?

Joe Pera could be a better choice.

I mean ... its almost the exact same team in terms of player athleticism and talent as last season. The athleticism and talent certainly have a ceiling, but there is some upside on the team beyond what the team has shown.

If we are only talking about this team's drop-off compared to the past couple seasons, I think Sheffield's injury and the general drop in 3-point shooting efficiency are to blame.

With Sheffield, this team is sitting in the blob in the middle of the conference. Which I am not saying is all that good or would justify retaining Pera. The team obviously doesn't have a ton of depth and hasn't weathered the injury to 1 starter. The team would have been living on the razor's edge if everyone was healthy, and has fallen off the edge with one injury.

No depth. Ever. Not in basketball nor in football.
