If biloxi is anything like Gulfport I’m in!

Biloxi is approx 10 minutes east of Gulfport and the cities are very similar.

We may have gone out in Biloxi then. Don’t really remember too much of that particular bachelor party. I was already on day 2 by the time I got there after a night in lake Charles to break up drive in. Ironically, we happened to be there while Southern Miss was in San Marcos for TXST homecoming I want to say in 2022. Was the first time I wished we were playing away! Stayed at a bachelor pad on a river or bayou perfect for guys weekend or bachelor party (bathrooms even had urinals), 5-6 TVs spread throughout the main party room (had CFB playing on every screen)
Lost my ass at the casinos though.
That place is like what an hour-ish drive to Hattiesburg?

Yep, about an hour drive down. Maybe a bit less if you have a heavy foot.

I want the Sunbelt to be a national leader in total attendance. ASU, ULM, Troy, GaSo, and USA all have the potential for great baseball fan bases. Anyway the the conference can give them an incentive to improve is a positive.

Not really trying to give UL or USM an advantage.

Here are the attendance numbers from last year.

We don't really have that potential because our school doesn't see baseball as important as the other sports. Our baseball program has less money than Coastal pays its head coach.

The state of Arkansas appreciates baseball. All you need to do is look at UA's numbers. Ya'll have the potential.

No point in debating it.

Maximizing revenue is dumb? Plus the championship game is shown on TV and it will look a lot better with it being at capacity. Our old conference moved it to the schools that brought the most fans.

So how would it work? On Saturday night after the regular season concludes and all the numbers are in for the season, you award the school with the highest attendance for the season the right to host an eight-team double elimination tournament that would begin literally less than 100 hours later?

Yeah, that'll work out just fine.

The site is determined before the season starts. Just like it has always been. Lafayette, Biloxi and Hattiesburg are also much bigger facilities. A team like Coastal that also cares about baseball only holds like 2500 or so and they usually don't even fill that up when they are ranked and it is a beautiful Saturday day.

Unlike Southern Miss, Coastal has nearby beaches in competition for those beautiful Spring Saturdays. You wouldn't understand...

Springs Brooks also holds around 5k. There are 2500 permanent chairbacks but that doesn't include the berms or standing room areas around the boardwalk to cram people. We had 4-5k for our regional games this past season.

Marshall’s new stadium has 9 lower level sections. Five of the nine are either sold out or have less than 20 seats available in each. The other four sections still have higher availability. My guess is about half of the lower level seats have been sold as season tickets.

Any yes, Coastal, beaches are nice. But our folks can be on a beach or on Bourbon Street within an hour and a half. Every school’s fans have priorities.

The second biggest alumni group in Mississippi is on the Gulf Coast. I bet several of the guys on here are from down there. I am from Ocean Springs which is the next town over from Biloxi and 2 over from Gulfport. We have the largest man-made beach in the world on the Gulf Coast. Maybe Dubai has something bigger now, but that is what was always said.

JMU is first a football school, then a basketball school, then everything else that is winning.

A long dry spell, with no tournament appearances in over a decade will make it hard to pull support. Doesn't matter if the opposition teams are good, if the one you are rooting for is not.

But hopefully, this transition to a new conference with better opponents will lead to a better product on the field.

Add up the bottom eight teams to gain more souls than at one of our games. That's wild. We're such a great baseball conference. How does that happen in areas with such little support?

I see what you're trying to say here... but don't you think Georgia Southern having the #33 national attendance, Coastal Carolina being #34, Troy being #45, and Texas State being #48 shows they all have great fan bases currently?

Even Troy and Texas State were still ahead of 28 "P5" schools.

The SBC is already a national attendance leader in baseball, only behind the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC. Ahead of the Big 10. That's pretty significant.

Yeah, not sure the point they are trying to make. Sure schools could always be better but there are 300 division 1 baseball programs and the Sun Belt has several programs in the top 50 of attendance. It's 2024, every single game is accessible to watch from anywhere. Schools aren't selling out every game. It is what it is, sorry...

They should also tell Coastal to maybe drop the ticket prices for various series, so that more folks are inclined to watch in person. If that was a priority however, I'm sure they would've already done it. I'm pretty confident CCU has the highest single and season ticket prices in the league.

Unless we are evaluating all of that in depth in terms of actual net "revenue" generated, this is all stupid.

A hour and half? How is that the same as being 9 miles from the ocean? A big reason students go to Coastal is to go to the beach. A good baseball team is just a plus. Hell, they skip class to go to the Beach during the Spring. It's literally nothing to miss a few baseball games.

Its not.

JMU students can be in the outer suburbs of both DC and Richmond within 1.5 hours. But I can assure you (as someone who makes those treks frequently for concerts and sporting events) no one is doing that if there is a comparable, even if inferior, product in town.

What is more surprising, Coastal only averaging 2100 or seven schools in a stout baseball conference unable to pull in 1000 per game?
Any yes, Coastal, beaches are nice. But our folks can be on a beach or on Bourbon Street within an hour and a half. Every school’s fans have priorities.

A hour and half? How is that the same as being 9 miles from the ocean? A big reason students go to Coastal is to go to the beach. A good baseball team is just a plus. Hell, they skip class to go to the Beach during the Spring. It's literally nothing to miss a few baseball games.
Sounds more like, the beach is always there, so why not go the beach around baseball games?

RE: SBC Baseball season ticket sales
Need to have the tournament in San Marcos one year. 105° temps aren’t that bad. You can jump in the river for a swim in between games!
