I expect a different game in El Paso. I certainly hope the final outcome is the same, but wins tend to be hard to come by out there.

Tops take down FIU 105-91 behind 30 points from Dontaie Allen. Starting guard Khristian Lander missed his second game in a row with a concussion. FIU went a staggering 17-40 from 3 but it wasn’t enough. Most points in a game for Western since the 2017 season and are now playing the #1 fastest pace in America. 2 more in a row at home is just what the doctor ordered for WKU.

A Hooten team being pushed around in Johnson Coliseum. Nice to be on the other side of that for a change!

NMSU is a patchwork roster after cleaning house. By next season, some of these Aggie players should broaden their respective games much like Wilkerson did this season at Sam Houston. At least now Hooten knows where our deficiencies are on this team. To start the season, we were a blank slate. I expect a much better Aggie team next season. At this current time, the Bearkat team is just a much more polished version of the style of play Hooten is trying to build at NMSU. Chris Mudge has continued Sam Houston's continuity.

RE: CUSA MMB Week #12
This years’ Bearkats team feels like the most complete squad we’ve had since pre-Hooten. Two very good three level scorers in Wilkerson and Barnes, a variety of long wings who can shoot and guard 1-4, and a pair of physically assertive bigs. Glad Coach Mudge got this group to stick it out with him at SHSU, he was Hooten’s recruiter for basically the entire 13 year tenure so he had strong relationships established with many of the guys, it just has to be extra rewarding and sweet to be atop the standings five games in. Well, besides Ezeagu, but he really sucks so who cares.

NMSU now 0-4 against SHSU over their last four meetings and is yet to beat the Bearkats as members of the same league.

It's going to be interesting to see how the standings play out as more games are played. Some teams have had more home games than others and since it appears the home court advantage is playing a huge factor so far, the final standings could be interesting.

Road games remaining per school

LU-6
MTSU-6
NMSU-6
SHSU-6
FIU-5
JSU-5
LaTech-5
UTEP-5
WKU-5

Saw a stat this morning on twitter-AP Top 10 17-27 against unranked opponents on the road this year. This isn’t just a CUSA thing; although I think we do see it to a greater degree in this conference due to the team’s’ relatively even strength.

Pretty sure I saw a stat where CUSA is ranked #1 in at home win % in conference play. Hardest league in America to pick up road wins at the moment.

I wonder if nationally that's a trend due in part to more player movement? Seems like maybe overall team cohesion/experience-together would be a factor in winning on the road. Once you adjusted for talent-level, coaching, etc.

RE: CUSA MMB Week #12
This is why I think most Aggie fans weren’t jumping up and down at being tied for first. Not that anyone else was, just that I think most Aggie fans realize our deficiencies on the road, the fact we’ve played mostly home games and this league is going to be tough to win on the road anyway. Personally, I’m not expecting the Aggies to be at the top of the standings anyway. If we can get into the top half of the standings, that’s a good start and shows a foundation being built for future seasons, IMO.

GO AGGIES!!!

Checks out.

Only four total road wins nearly a month into league play. LaTech (2), Sam (1) and JSU (1) remain the only schools to win CUSA road games. Two of those came at Middle.

Grabbing a couple of victories away from home could be the difference between playing an FIU or MT in the first round in the tournament vs. having to face off with an NMSU or WKU right away.

In a single bid league, the regular season is just for bragging rights anyway (not that any of us would/should turn our noses up at a league title if we can get it).

We'll have to see as the season plays out, but I'm starting to wonder if the variety of playing styles and match-ups might not also mitigate the importance of seeding (past the extra game for 8/9 or the #1 seed getting to play that winner for their first game). You might prefer to draw #6 over #7 anyway depending on the other teams' playing style against yours.

I guess that's always true to some extent. We'll have to see.

All very true. Being a regular season champ has a lot of value in my eyes because I feel like it is the more difficult thing to do. In terms of moving on into post season play, not sure it really means much because we are a 1-bid league. It used to drive me nuts when a past coach used to always say they were just developing for those three games in March. It is what it is.

GO AGGIES!!!

The changes to the NIT have further diminished the regular season. No auto-bid to the NIT for regular season champs anymore. All the eggs go in the conference tournament basket.

I think SHSU has a distinct advantage at home, the officiating in Huntsville has been bad really bad.

Things will equal out once SHSU leave Hunstville
