Fisher: 14 point (6-10 FG), 5 boards, 3 assists, 5 steals
Ennis: 16 points (6-16 FG), 5 boards
Jackson: 14 points (5-10 FG), 4 boards, 5 assists
Maya: 10 points (4-6 FG), 6 boards

Samb played 26 minutes and contributed all of 0 points, 2 boards, 1 assist. She was a +/- of +3 in those 26 minutes; whereas Hayes was a +/- of +12 in 10 minutes.

I wonder if Samb contributes on defense, in a manner that does not show up in stats, which are mostly offensive stats.

No blocks and only 2 boards in 26 minutes. That's pretty poor for a post defender.

I was wondering if her presence led players to alter their attacks or change their game plan. There has to be some reason the coach played her so much without offensive contributions.

Could have just been a desire to see how she responded to a significant increase in playing time. Her somewhat meager +/- in 26 minutes of a game in which we dominated for much of the time doesn't appear to reflect superb defense. But, as you say, who knows. It was just puzzling.

Thanks

Temple women currently leading Charlotte by 12 at home nearing the end of the third quarter. We really need them to win because Charlotte easily has the easiest schedule of the top seven teams.

Right now there are 4 1 loss teams in conference (Rice, Charlotte, UNT and UAB), and 3 2 loss teams (Temple, Tulsa and UTSA). UTSA is at UAB today as well (and leads by 13 early in the 2nd quarter).

Rice plays 5 more games against that group - twice vs. Tulsa and once against UAB, UNT and UTSA. Charlotte only has three games against that group after today.

Temple is still up 9 (3:12 left) and very well could hold on at home

4-2 UTSA is up by 10 points at 4-1 UAB at halftime. That one’s probably a don’t care for us (would you rather have both teams one full game back, or one team tied and the other two games back)? If the roadrunners hold on I’ll take it though.

I watched half the game in-person (the 2nd and 3rd quarters … family stuff going on at the beginning and end). There were a significant number of possessions where the Rice defense was forcing Tulane to take shots in the last 5 seconds of the shot clock. It was pretty impressive!
