Temple ties it with a 3 :(

Huseinovich with Rice’s second made three of the half makes it 64-61!

Then, follows that with a steal… Rice timeout 1:40 with the ball

66-65 Rice ball @ 0:21. Temple hits a 3-ointer after an Evee turnover. We have 9 TOs this half after only committing 4 the first half.

Watching this team is beyond painful. How does Fiedler miss that pass? How do we not get the rebound on the missed three? I fully expect to lose this game

Temple’s only 50% from the line today.

But we just went 0-2 and the other owls need just 2 to go ahead.

Temple timeout :17

For all of his flaws, at least Pera fouled up 3. Smart coaching.

Agreed. Right move up by 3 with 0:03 on the clock.

Congrats to the men on their 1st AAC win. Made it way harder than it should have been, but a win nevertheless. Now build on it.

I’m happy for the team itself. We can be the champion Owls of the AAC Wednesday I think?

We do host Temple in late February but yeah if we win Wednesday then we’ll definitely have some kind of bragging rights!

Fact check:
This win actually moves Rice OUT of the cellar, now occupied solely by once mighty Wichita State (0-4).

I’m sure Wichita won’t finish in the cellar. But they’re there now.

And we aren’t.

I’m so beaten down as a Rice fan that I was sure we would find a way to lose this one. But we didn’t. Maybe there are some lessons here to close out some of these games where we get off to a good start? And maybe we can salvage some good things from this season? Just trying to keep some hope alive.

You weren’t the only one. This game paralleled the Charlotte game in many ways. But Charlotte >>> Temple which allowed Rice to find a way not to loose.

I think we need to get Fiedler out of the game when we are being fouled and put at the line. He’s just not a good FT shooter. If he had made his FTs with (11?) seconds to go vs Charlotte, I bet we win that game in regulation.

Problem is that our less than stellar offense is even more stagnant when Fiedler is not out there.

Temple refused to (let us) lose and among other things insisted on shooting their own FT at a 50% clip throughout the game.

I appreciate that sportsmanship from a fellow league member. “You really didn’t foul us THAT bad. We’re only going to make one of the two shots.”

Anyway, you might think at 9/29 (31%) the Temple Owls we’re settling for too many three’s. Until you realize one of their starters is named, literally, Steve Settle Three.

It was a good game, Temple, the refs kind of let us both play. Helluva second half comeback from down 16 to up 6. Glad our boys finally figured out how to close one out after letting the three previous opportunities slip.

As for Rice… the previous three games we lost second half leads of 10,9, and 9. Yesterday we lost a 13 point second half lead, but we bounced back. Data says so far an 11 or 12 point second half lead *might* be safe 03-wink

was this at the Palestra? Or did they just practice there? Most incredible arena in the country.
