He was STARTING Ashton at the beginning of the season and there were no apparent chemistry issues. The chemistry issues appeared after adding Tomlin into the lineup.
Against UVa, Jayden played 15 min and Ashton played 7 min, Tomlin played 0 min
Against USF, Jayden played 10 min and Ashton played 14 min, Tomlin played 31 min
Against Tulane, Jayden played 28 min, Ashton played 4 min, Tomlin played 20 min. JayKwon played 17 minutes in the first half. Assuming he didn't get hurt and had played 17 in the second half, Jayden might have only played around 15 min.
I don't think the problem is with the 2 Hardaways.
Imagine blaming Tomlin for this... smh
I'm not blaming Tomlin. I'm just making an observation about the last 7 games. The problem is obviously with the starters. I doubt Quinerly or Jones are concerned about not getting as much play time as they want. Or getting as many shots as they want.
I don't see Walton pouting when Jayden subs in for him. I doubt Jahlon, Carl, or Pierre's lack of playtime is affecting the overall attitude of the starters.
I just don't see that the Hardaway boys are the issue.
Play Brown, Carl, or Pierre 28 minutes instead of Jayden and we leave with a win. Seems like an issue to me.
Whenever I've seen Pierre in the game, he has looked like a deer in the headlights. He is not used to the speed of D1 yet.
Brown? Who knows what he can really do in this style of play. But he sure can't play the wing in Mills absence.
Carl should probably get some of Ashton's minutes. But I doubt he can play as steady as Jayden typically does. More upside for sure - but not right now.
So, can we play Tomlin consistently at the 3? Seems really the only option if Jayden isn't that player.

That is really a question of defense. Can he defend the opposing team's 3? It seems like he should be able to against the vast majority of teams we face.

From Parth Upadhyaya:
Penny on Jayden Hardaway and criticism of his playing time:
"If you ask anybody in this building, Jayden's one of our most important players. He's boxing out and contesting every time."
Says there a lot of people that "don't know basketball" and realize Jayden's impact on game.

Quinerly, Jones, Tomlin, Walton = 30 mpg
Malco, Jordain = 20 mpg
Brown, Young, Jayden = 13 mpg
Others only in an emergency or blowout minutes

Penny on his responsibility in all of this (from Jason Munz):
“The one thing I did wrong, I accepted in winning what I wouldn’t accept in losing,” he (Penny Hardaway) said. “And it caught up to us.”

I mean, that's about all you'll get any coach to say publicly. And it is far-reaching and probably accurate.

We gotta have more Jayden, baby!
He's the best 3-point shooter in the country according to his Pops last season, 20.8% this year behind the arc this year. If you know basketball then you know he's the best based on results & the eye test. Now add he's the best at boxing out on the team, he should be getting 30+ minutes a game. He doesn't score much because he doesn't look to take bad shots, but at least he gets to run up & down the court for a glorified cardio session!
We need more Jayden, baby!

Jayden's averaging like 13 minutes a game. His play isn't why we're losing.
So, since no one else will say it: our point guard isn't playing well. He is dribbling too much. Turning the ball over too much. His defense hasn't been great since Clemson. Everything else flows from him. He HAS to be better for us to win.

I feel bad for Jayden because so many fans shift a disproportional burden of defeat upon his shoulders. A compelling narrative - however false or exaggerated- is difficult to extinguish.

Gotta have more Jayden, baby! He's the most solid player on the team. Maybe he should bring the ball up the court too! Best @ boxing out & not taking bad shots, which is why he never scores, best 3P shooter in the country and now we could potentially add floor general to his resume. He took care of the ball so well against FAU last year with both hands on the ball that he couldn't even call a timeout, protect it at all costs! Gotta have more Jayden cardio, baby!

With Mills out, Walton out, Tomlin with a scratched cornea, Jourdain dealing with stomach bug, and Malco in foul trouble - I'm not sure who else you want in there instead of Jayden?

Maybe try the 3 players at the end of the bench who are and have always been better than Jayden.

You're going to have to be more specific - not sure which 3.
With the players out that I mentioned above, who would be your 5 to get the 2nd half minutes?
You can use Malco/Jourdain as 1 of your 5. Nick was okay enough to cover for Malco's foul issues.
Quinerly
Jones
Malco/Jourdain
Young
?

Young , Carl and Pierre are all way more athletic than the Hardaway brothers. And since our problem seems to be on defense, I’d at least want better athletes in there that can make up for mistakes

Considering Jayden doesn't have a true position or skills you could use Carl, Pierre, or Brown. Jourdain played terrible as you would expect someone sick to play.
