TK On His Radio Show Tonight
TK was in a very talkative mood tonight on his Radio Show and had the following interesting comments:

* Said that one of the big reasons for the good start to Conference play has been his 3 Juniors (Moss, Cochran, and Maddox) improving on their “off the ball” defense individually as they were freelancing too much during the non-conference season. He said the team’s winning ways over the past 3 seasons have provided an expectation for this years team to win these games that come down to the end which most league games happen to do.

* Calls Javon Simmons a very competitive player who is one of the most vocal leaders on the team this season. He said that Simons and the 3 Juniors bring a lot of competitive energy to the huddle during timeouts which he loves to see.

* While he has offered his son Race a scholarship, he said that it might be “healthier” for him to go out on his own and play elsewhere.

* On his two recruits coming in next season, he calls the 6-5 Tyler Ode a total culture guy who does everything well but is most concerned about helping his team win. He thinks he will contribute immediately in some fashion when the next season rolls around. As for 6-9 Jaylan Ouwinga, he calls him a very talented player who has a lot of potential. He compared him to Ball St’s 6-9 Basheer Jihad who he calls one of the top 3 players in the league currently because he is equally good both inside and out.

* Said Bryce Ford will definitely play tomorrow night as he finally recovered from a bad case of the flu. Said that Grgur Brcic is about ready to come back from a hip pointer but the coaching staff is more comfortable currently with giving those minutes to Ben Wight who has begun to play better. While he said, Briic has more long term potential, the two players willl continue to battle for playing time going forward.

* On tomorrow night’s opponent Buffalo, he said despite their poor record, they have very good “individual” talent – specifically seniors 6-8 Sy Chatham and 6-6 Isaiah Adams who average 20 and 13 ppg. respectively.

Good stuff - thank you.

Not much to disagree with IMO.

In talking about Buffalo, he mentioned his disdain for how former Bulls Coach Bobby Hurley acted during games against Toledo saying he consistently berated officials and repeatedly yelled at Toledo's bench with one time getting into a verbal confrontation with UT Trainer Brian Jones. TK, who was undefeated against Hurley, said he especially enjoyed one particular win against Hurley's Bull's when Juice Brown hit a buzzer beater on a 2 pass out of bounds play with seconds remaining.

Best in-bounds play ever. We still use it. 3/4 court pass to Boothe who hit Juice at the top of the key. Happened right in front of me.

One of the many looks at the play on YouTube. I remember the aggressive handshake the most.

Shows you how much TK has changed the way he coaches. Lots of timeouts and setups to end that game. He either trusts his guys a lot more or his philosophy on coaching has changed. Maybe both. But our defense to end that game was an eye sore.

I had to Google Race to see where he played. I haven't seen much local press. I see he's at St. John's, is 6'6" class of 2026. Offers from UT, UC Irvine and Bradley.

LOLOL... yeah - I've heard he's a head case. Evidently TK has a profound dislike for the guy to be this open about it. He's mentioned things about Hurley before. Must really dislike the guy and evidently for good reasons. Talking negatively about other coaches is sort of taboo but not in this case.

BTW - I was listening to Coach K's (former Duke HC) show on Tuesdays (?) at 6:00 p.m. on SXM College Sports Radio ( 2 weeks ago) and he was raving about job TK does at Toledo. He was talking about top mid major programs and Toledo was on his list and he went on the discuss the good job TK has done over the years here. Very nice discussion.

Go Rockets!

Kowalczyk must have been unhappy Marreon Jackson chose to play his final year for Hurley at Arizona State.

Good point. I assume that this move to ASU was a dig at TK from Hurley. I wonder if he openly poached him. That was a very good point on Marreon. Makes ya wonder how that went down. Where is Marreon?????

Good question. Also, where is Seth Milner. Tk had a lot to say about Milners leadership and his influence on Simmons but made no mention of where Milner is currently playing or what he's doing if he's not playing anywhere.

Easy find.... MJ plays for CSO Voluntari in Romania's top league. Good for him. Playing pro ball is a good thing. Probably makes a fairly good dime... 200K$ ?

I cannot find anything specific on Seth Milner. Perhaps he is not actively playing after being waived by Spurs.
