Several sources are reporting today that Eric Wood is gone.

Unsure of role--but appears to be the Assistant AD spot.

Mixed feelings.


He had to deal with COVID fallout and the conference falling apart. Seems like a good guy. Has got some fundraising and building done.

But we have not exactly been crushing it on the fields during his tenure. So you will hear from fans who put that on him, fairly or not. Especially the ones who are out on Cumbie.

You hate to lose someone to an assistant position but we all know P5 can afford to pay their water boys more than we can pay our AD. Last one (who the SB fans love so much) went to Vandy for a similar position for a few years and then got the head job at Rice. So it doesn't hurt your career at all.

Well, we had a new University President start his role this month, and the writing may have been on the wall with Wood due to that change. Wood had finagled an additional VP title out of the prior administration, and it's possible this was just not something the new President envisioned for an AD. Who knows? I'm sure money also played. Honestly, it would be good to have someone in the role who is more focused on the nuts and bolts rather than org structure and titles.

I really hope not. He is amazing at what he does. I’m holding out hope he is our next AD but I’m sure he will get snatched up before we wise up to it.

We've had a lot of good employees come and go, waiting for a chance at MT. Meanwhile, those above them (unhireabe/undesirable anywhere else) stay and milk that government check until their mid-70's.
