Ode/Ouwinga
Tyler Ode, G, Saginaw Heritage
6-foot-6
Commitment: Toledo
Ode has led Heritage to a 5-0 record to start the season as it prepares to take on Flint Hamady on Saturday. Ode scored 23 points in Heritage’s final game before the break, an 81-44 win over previously undefeated Freeland. He followed with another 23-point outing in a 73-66 win over Chelsea in the Roundball Classic at Ferndale.
Jaylan Ouwinga, F, Grand Rapids Christian
6-foot-9
Commitment: Toledo
Grand Rapids Christian is 7-0 and Ouwinga has been looking great throughout. He put up 23 points in a 69-50 win over Grand Rapids Catholic Central. He also led the way in scoring with 12 points in a low-scoring 45-34 win over Byron Center. An important OK White matchup with Grand Rapids Northview awaits next Friday.

Ode hit seven 3s and had 29pts leading Saginaw Heritage to victory this past weekend.

RE: Ode/Ouwinga
there's some recent video on Ode's twitter. he's really put together and built like a college upperclassman. says his early commitment to UT has made everything better (paraphrasing) that he has a home waiting for him at the next level and is worry free and focused on being a high school senior. his squad is playing great and being talked about like a state title contender. shooting the 3 very well this year. I see him as a long term impact player at UT.

Like the update & assessment Pono. Good news. His stroke is very sweet. UT got in early on a good one. Another inch taller and we're outside looking in.
Is he a G/F at UT?? UT's more positionless game seems to be perfect for him. He could really excel in our offense.

We don't know what will happen this year, obviously, and I'm not counting out the big prize. But it sure looks good for next year with seniors and soph's having a year under their belt. Transfer in a legit 5 and this team could be really good.
And money grows on trees. We can always dream can't we?

He's a guard but part of his appeal is that he is the size of a MAC forward and can be fairly position less. most of his recent usage in (high level) AAU and his Sr yr of HS are catch and shoot 3s or alley-oops and cutting to the rim in the dunker position for dunks or power layups. however, as a junior he was all over the floor, making mid range 1 on 1 plays, handling the ball, attacking the rim off the dribble.
as with any physically gifted HS player there's some concern his current advantage w size, strength, athleticism becomes a diminishing return as he matches up w similarly gifted D1 kids and some of the late developing players catch up to him. his appeal is as a Day 1 contributor. he would be playing over Lewis, Ford, Brcic, Wight and probably Lorentsson right now.
he's a good jump shooter with a pretty quick elevation and release. he's 6-6, strong, over 200#, and runs, cuts and jumps well. seems to really like the game and be a good teammate. very competitive type. got no idea of his ceiling, but has that "good college player" written all over him. a rough comparison to a recent Rocket would be Seth Milner if he dribbled better.

Michigan DII regional Final
Jaylan Ouwinga, the Eagles' 6-foot-9 center, was hit with a technical with two minutes remaining for his fifth foul, but by then he had made his impact on the game. He finished with a team-high 15 points, but was even more of a force on defense, blocking four shots and altering many others.
