When Ohio State can hire UCLA's Head Coach to be an assistant... that's when the schlitz hits the fan. Just like NIL the top money schools will buy players so other schools can't have them and will now start doing the same thing with coaches.

Pulled from this article: “Jarmond said he was not caught off when Kelly called him earlier Friday to inform him he was leaving. Kelly had interviewed for multiple NFL offensive coordinator jobs over the last two weeks.”

He was looking to leave in general and it appears to be mutual. He only had a year left on his extension.

He was looking for an NFL job though. I'm looking for a Ferrari, but if a Camaro is available I'll still bolt?

He doesn't leave for any other college job but OSU. Will likely lead to an NFL gig and most importantly he has deep ties with Ryan Day from their UNH days where he coached Day as a player and was his boss when Day joined that staff.

Strangely was at a Super Bowl party last night and talked to friend of my father who coached with both with the 49ers and said it was not too surprising as they were quite close and the fact that UCLA is going to really struggle in the B1G. This guy is now a coach in B1G at a middling team and he thinks UCLA will be lucky to get close to 500 this year.

I'd have to agree with your Dad's friend.

Yeah if he's trying to get back in the NFL, Ohio State is definitely a better vehicle to increase the chances. He does well, some NFL squad will pick him up the following season.

Not wrong. He hasn't even been a coordinator... hasn't managed an entire offensive or defensive unit of a roster.

That's quite the jump from being in charge of 8 players to being in charge of 100 players.

Maybe he'll be successful regardless. It's just an interesting choice for a UCLA/Big 10 gig. Seems like something a G5 would do instead.

Dabo was not a Coordinator, nor had he ever been one. The HC job is more around managing and organization.

That's very commendable, but anti-climatic, I'm afraid.

Swinney was the recruiting coordinator and became the Assistant Head Coach the year before he took over. He also had a 6-game span after Tommy Bowden was fired to show his stuff as the OC/Interim HC.

Who knows how it will work out, but they needed to act quickly and considering the timing I think they decided bringing in someone players know and love was best choice at this point. He obviously can coach as he had actually left UCLA for job with Raiders a few weeks ago.
