Auburn cites App State road loss as a good thing
Great ammo for the “nothing to gain everything to lose” argument from major conference fans. Bruce Pearl likes taking his team on the road and cited the adversity they faced at App State as critical in their win at Arkansas.

Yea, no point in him saying it was awful after the fact, would just paint his team in a bad light.

We had some P5 programs come to Diddle semi-recently as part of a hybrid home and home (1 for 1 in basketball, we play a money game at their place in football). Most took an L in Diddle. Some mentioned how competitive the games were and that they would want to schedule them again in the future. It was all coach speak. None have scheduled additional games. South Carolina paid the buyout to cancel their return game (which led to us playing an extra sub D1 this year). Maybe Pearl will put his money where his mouth is, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

What's he pushing? That the tough environment that App State created led to Auburn beating an Arkansas team that essentially no showed by 32 points in front of a less than enthusiastic crowd?

The same Arkansas that lost to UNC Greensboro?

That's some spin.

Logic be damned, this is a good article for mid-major basketball.

I'm just pissed that Southern Miss doesn't have App on our schedule this year in MBB. Would be a good game.

Former GS football coach and College Football Hall of Famer Paul Johnson said you can get guys to play 7 complete games at the most. This was a guy known for putting all-Americans on the bench if he thought they weren't giving effort. Sometimes a group of college athletes need a kick in the pants to get them to start shoveling more coal into the boiler.

Well, it doesn't help Bruce Pearl that in-state Troy just beat the same App State team that Auburn lost to. That's not a dig at App. Just stating that the perception of Auburn basketball losing to an App team that Troy beat isn't a good look for them.

Losing to App State has lead to a lot of great things.

Only took Michigan 16 years to get their reward!
