Time to ask this important hypothetical
Was FSU the best team in 2023 with a healthy Jordan Travis?
FSU's offense and defense is/was arguably as good or better than Michigan's. From the eye test, I think FSU passes.

If you don't want to be part of the ACC, why do you expect us to care about your football team?

With a healthy Travis, probably so.

Your angst is toward the wrong FSU fan.

Garretabc has been conducting himself in a very respecful manor on this board even though his school takes a lot of hits over here lately. Some FSU fans have been a bit much over here but lets nots lump them all together.

FSU was the 3rd or 4th best team with a healthy Travis. Michigan, Washington, and probably Georgia were better.

With everyone healthy I would rank everyone as follows:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan/Alabama
4. Texas/FSU/Oregon/Washington
I come away with three tiers. I thought Georgia was better than Bama despite Bama losing. Just as I think Bama is better than Texas, despite losing. I thought Bama choked, and Michigan had it easy in the Big 10 but it's my opinion.
FSU needed some luck to beat Clemson and BC. They did win though but if Travis has a subpar game they are like Washington. Texas, FSU, Washington, and Oregon could play each other a 100 times and end up 24-26-23-27.

You make a good observation but, like any hypothetical, that's a hard one to validate.
I was at the BC/FSU game on September 16th, when Travis was healthy. While BC lost 31-29, they dominated pretty much all phases of the game and FSU was very lucky to win it. Had BC not racked up 131 yards in penalties, I think they likely would have won. Leaving Alumni that day, I did not think FSU was a top team.
Still, they went on to have an undefeated RS and won the ACC without Travis down the stretch. That counts for a lot, IMO. My guess, had Travis stayed healthy, they would be a Top 4 team and make the playoffs. With a few breaks, they might have won it all; but I don't think they were the best team. Of course, that's just a gut feel. As I said before, this is a hard one to validate.

It's hard to say FSU could compete when we know the game they did have a chance to win either the AP or Coaches poll National Championship they lost 63-3.
I know FSU had a bunch of players out but, would those players have stayed had they not been left out of the playoffs. They still had a National Championship to play for, the same one generations of players played for before the 1990's. Seems to me there's a good chance those going on to the NFL or transferring out would have done so any way.
Would they have stayed if Travis hadn't gotten hurt and they made the playoffs? Seems like a stretch to assume that one players health would have had an effect on many others leaving. If they're going to leave, they're going to leave.

The ones that transferred were mostly depth guys, except 2 that started. Hard to know if they would have stayed or went.

Well it now seems to the eye test FSU was left out so Nick Saban could have a last shot at a National Championship before retiring

Healthy FSU would have been #3, I believe. So they would have played Washington in a toss up and then Michigan or Texas with a win.
okay,
game time

FSU would have been in the playoff with Jordan Travis. Fact.
Who knows from there?
