Exclamation FCS National Championship - ABC - 2PM ET
Should be of interest to many considering the history of our membership. South Dakota State's team this year is one of the best FCS teams in recent memory. SP+ has them rated as a borderline Top 25 (FBS) outfit, and rated higher than any BIGTEN WEST program.

Sadly, most Americans couldn’t locate Montana or South Dakota on a map!

I can. South Dakota is located South of North Dakota...

Pretty easy really.

Even by asking Siri they would find it challenging. 04-cheers

Not for the entire day, especially the noon or 1 pm window, but it’s not a big deal. Otherwise, they would’ve found a way to put it on a Saturday.

No one has seen or heard from North Dakota since they started losing a few in Fargo. 03-zzz

Having gone to Frisco three times and endured the horrible Saturday 11am local time kickoff, I would have much preferred a Sunday 1pm local time kickoff.

Neither one of these teams played a FBS team. Is that normal now in FCS? I remember App always played a P5 (FBS) team when we were 1-AA.

I suspect I could easily disprove your claim about a P5 on every App schedule.

Since App was moved to 1-AA/FCS in 1982 and to FBS in 2014, a P5 was not on the schedule in 2002,03,04,09, and 2020.

5 years out of 41 without playing a P5 is better than the Dukes who didn’t play a P5 in 22 years of their 43 years in FCS/FBS.

Oh, is that what we were talking about? JMU?

I just had my BS alert go off real strong at QueencityApp’s clear lie. Has nothing to do with JMU.

Thanks though.

All those people out there who are all like "shoulda stayed in the FCS" should go look on ESPN and see how far down the main page you have to go before you even see mention of the FCS Championship game. You have to go down past the NFL, NHL, NCAAM, NCAAB, MLS and a story about one of the Commanders coming to gameday shirtless and overalls before you get the score.

*FWIW they did finally put a headline for it on the top news section hours after the game was over.

Since the App win over Michigan, no P5 wants to play a good to great FCS team.

I thought to myself, I love how we had a game thread for the FCS National Championship but nothing for the Big Ten/SEC Invitational. I almost started a thread to give everyone kudos, but I'll just do that here.

5 years out of 41 without playing a P5 is better than the Dukes who didn’t play a P5 in 22 years of their 43 years in FCS/FBS.

In the early years of I-AA the Mountaineers played multiple I-A / FBS teams.

For anyone keeping score, I did watch the game last night but still don't know who won the FCS title.

Royalty vs. nouveau riche

While many of FCS' onetime powers -- Marshall, Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, James Madison -- have moved on to FBS through the years, Montana has been a second-subdivision stalwart. In the 15 years from 1995 to 2009, the Grizzlies reached the national title game seven times. They knocked off mighty Marshall on the road 22-20 to win their first title in 1995, they ground Furman into dust in a 13-6 rock fight in 2001, and they came achingly close to wins in 2000 (two-point loss to Georgia Southern), 2004 (led JMU in the third quarter) and 2009 too (two-point loss to Villanova).

1. 1996 Marshall Thundering Herd (15-0). With a redshirt freshman receiver by the name of Randy Moss leading the way, the Herd outscored opponents by 29.8 points per game and won four playoff games by an average of 48-14. Moss had nine catches for 220 yards and four scores against Montana in a 49-29 title game win. His final score gave Marshall a 46-6 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Griz made it respectable late.
