RE: Official Game Thread: @ UNCG
Student section empty, the whole place is empty. So UNCG has practically no fan support with a team that has a good record. Again this is the norm for SoCon. This is why SoCon gets very little TV time. Its a bad look when arenas are practically empty.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ UNCG
Blew an important psychological moment that may define the 2nd half: Seymour fails to tie it on a 2nd freethrow, Asamoah misses a good look at three. UNCG back up 7 now.

Someone’s gotta take over. Seymour, Asamoah, or Peterson. Too many poor shot selections and missing the good looks that do come. Someone’s gotta get hungry and give the team some convincing fire.

My biggest pet peeve in basketball is big men who put it on the floor, Parker again proves why.

Absolutely atrocious shot selection this half. Some of that is UNC-G's D, but mostly our impatience.

Wow, choking so painfully bad. Choked at the beginning of the game. Choked when there was a chance to tie/take the lead early 2nd half. Straight up asphyxiating with 6 mins left.

The Bucs inability to score couldn’t be represented better than Seymour’s layup coming to rest on the back iron for a jump ball.

Snow in the Piedmont? I peeked at Mercer vs VMI and there were probably less than 150 fans there.

There was absolutely no snow in here today. Maybe some ice very early this morning, but it was rain by the time I got off of work at 6:15.

Well, we had grossly overachieved on FTs lately, so overdue for reversion to the mean.

But besides that.............."Any long lull will be exploited......"

Savage, get it under 10 and let’s move on. There will be a chance to do better at home. What can you do when your 3 main scorers don’t step up?

P.S. Quick check on the game stats, Bucs shooting under 33% holy smokes

P.P.S. Ok Savage, just keep it under 20 for heaven sakes. What an embarrassing meltdown.

When one team has an offensive game plan and the other plays street ball, this is what happens. ETSU call an offensive play today? Mostly stupid three point shots early in the shot clock. Peterson the only one driving the ball, and this was his worst game of the season. 100% out coached and out played today.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ UNCG
7/30 (23%) from deep. That's just FAR too many outside shots. We were incredibly impatient, and one has to put a lot of that responsibility on Savage, imo. Yes, the Spartans were clogging the middle, but it's like in the middle of the second half Savage just completely gave up on trying anything inside.

Wherefore art thou, O Tray Boyd? O Courtney Pigram and Jalen Riley?

I think with Smith not even seeing any garbage time in this game, he's officially persona non grata. Would've been nice to see the walk-ons get some PT, but Savage apparently thinks like Forbes on that topic.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ UNCG
Well any time that Forbes’ teams lost the sky was falling so I didn’t expect anything different here. This was a game we couldn’t have expected to win. We just didn’t shoot well, but even worse than we do when we shoot poorly. Just ice cold. We were overmatched inside - Brown-Jokes is as good as anyone in this league. Really athletic physical center. I thought DJ had some good minutes. Defensively we were good until we got a little worn down. We had our chances to stay in it but just didn’t hit shots when we had opportunities. And we had plenty.

Move on - win at home. I figure if we can split with the top 4, and sweep the rest - maybe a little optimistic but it’s possible - we will be in the mix at the end,

While that's of course true, (imo) the error(s) were compounded by continuing to fire up shots from 20 ft. - early in the shot clock - when nobody had a groove. It's pretty much basketball 101 (or 102) to quit what isn't working, especially that............and dig, dig, dig at getting to the rim. Work harder to get easier (closer in) shots. That doesn't always work, but that's what one should do. If Damari Monsanto was still wearing our uniform, that's a different matter. Or even Pigram. But we ain't got one of those this year. 7/30 overall is bad, but 2/14 in the second half is worse. I'm *not* saying the outcome would have been different - but ya gotta get away from what's not working.

Well the fact of the matter was you can drive or take it down low, but beating Brown-Jones was a serious problem for us. Parker was obviously no match. No one on our roster is - probably true of most SoCon teams this year. We hung in for as long as we could playing as poorly as we played, We had clean looks that honestly we typically hit. Plus we didn’t rebound very well. We can beat them, but have to play better offensively (duh). Defense was pretty solid, and I think DJ needs more minutes.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ UNCG
You and I have agreed in the past that this is not a particularly good-shooting team. We've trended higher lately (against *generally* weaker comp), so today was also closer to a return to form. (Which is not to imply this team will normally shoot *this* poorly, as that's not the case.)

I don't disagree on the quality of Brown-Jones........but a) he's only one guy; and b) you *still* gotta do something different if plan A is failing. Additionally..........if you take more close-in shots, even if well-defended, the rebounding differential shrinks, with even the additional possibility that the penetrators get fouled (not that that would have helped much today with our clanging from the line). Peterson did try, quite a few times, as did Seymour, but again, that's the standard prescription when a team is as cold as the Bucs were today. You could see the confidence wane - then evaporate. It takes less confidence (generalizing) to drive and force the action than it does to bomb. If you're not truly "feeling it" out there, you're not gonna be successful.
