After two years, Barstool is likely done sponsoring the Arizona Bowl.
1.1M Viewers on the CW for this year matchup on top of Barstools Concurrent streams, however after two years, Big Cat says Barstool is likely done sponsoring the Arizona Bowl. "Was a lot of fun doing it but unless the financials drastically change on doing it that’s probably it.”

Since Barstool Sports’ ownership transition from PENN Entertainment back to founder and president Dave Portnoy in August, the company has been evaluating its content strategy and financial future.

Barstool to sponsor the New Haven "Everybody Knows the Rules" Bowl instead.

They have a Barstool Sportsbook and bar in L'auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles. That's the only way I even know this company.

Just another sign there are too many bowls. These low tier ones are unsustainable. Just look at how often otherwise non-eligible teams get a slot.

This bowl fits the profile of an ESPN Events bowl. Wonder if they would have any interest

Do you have any rational arguments or are you just mad that it's true?

RE: After two years, Barstool is likely done sponsoring the Arizona Bowl.
FWIW: The CW scored big with its first college football bowl game. The Wyoming Cowboys eked out a win over the Toledo Rockets in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl on Saturday, delivering 1.1M total viewers, according to Nielsen.

The game, which saw the Cowboys emerge victorious after a field goal as the game clock expired, is now among the CW’s top three telecasts of the past two years in both total viewers and in the 18-49 demographic, of which 320,000 people tuned in. The game peaked with 1.9M viewers in the final quarter hour.

This is quite a big audience for The CW, which rarely cracks a million viewers with its regular programming. According to Nielsen, the Arizona Bowl outpaced the UCLA vs. Oregon men’s basketball game that aired on CBS during the same window by around 41%.

I watched some of the pregame and most of the 4th quarter. Decent production and a close game won on a field goal as time expired.

Decent viewership for The CW. The bowl game seems to only be worth anything in Tucson, not Phoenix.

Not sure if Portnoy knows what they are now himself since there a series of non-competes with Penn products.

You’re making the exact opposite argument than you’re trying to make. Are a few bowls money losers some years? Probably, particularly this one that lacks a major media partner. But on the whole, if these bowls are losing money they wouldn’t exist to invite occasional 5-7 teams to participate. Nobody’s going to prop an unsustainable bowl up for long. The fact that these events continue with mediocre teams shows the demand is there.

No interest at all to ESPN. They want to decide the date and time for the bowl.
Kinda glad they won’t be sponsoring as their broadcast style to was too over the top for my liking.
However, I do have to wonder if the CW will be interested in broadcasting the game from the amount of viewers they received.

Need more bowl games not on ESPN. Hope that The CW becomes a massive success with the ACC contract and more conferences move to an OTA station for their games. Won't happen, but it's a nice dream :)

Shame that the game had to be watched on mute. To say that the promoters of this game lacked professionalism would be the understatement of the century. The entire barstool brand is just going after the lowest common denominator, the same type of audience who support the likes of Pat McAfee.

Interesting. There is a L'auberge Casino in Baton Rouge as well, and they opened a Barstool Sportsbook there last year too. But I am not sure if it is still has that branding.

That's too bad. I like the AZ Bowl and enjoyed watching it on the CW this year, if Barstool does stop sponsorship I hope they get a good one to replace them.
