RE: Michigan continues as a Top population Departure state
I've been in Florida the past 10 days, going home tomorrow. Some of it's been vacay with the fam, some working remotely.
All politics aside, for me 65-70 degrees sure beats the 30s and slop heading for Michigan next week. If I were a freer spirit, I'd definitely be snow-birding it down here at minimum, especially with a WFH gig.
I see why people want to move a warmer climate, especially as they get older. The 5-month Michigan winters eventually takes its toll.

Different strokes for different folks.
Personally I take shoveling snow a few times a winter-adjusting to temperatures than having to deal with oppressive heat in the summer, pop-up rain storms, and having to board up my residence-evacuate for hurricanes.

Here on the other side of the lake we've had only about an inch of snow so far, and the temperatures have been so moderate it's scary. Warmest I've ever seen it and have lived in Northern Illinois area for most of my life.
Still a lot colder than FL but I have no plans to move to any place like that. Probably couldn't afford the home insurance anyway.

Most people I know who have moved South are escaping the winter. My age range especially wants it to be like they're on a vacation every day. I don't really think it has much to do w/ how the states are run.

Yep winter's been a cakewalk thus far in MI too. But there's a pattern change coming next week that will usher us back into "real" winter.
Meteorology nerd talk here, but when the NAO and AO both project to go negative at the same time, get ready for some nastiness. They were both positive throughout December.

July Temps in Boca vs Detroit are about a 6-7 degree difference.
11 days of rain vs 8. If you live near the Beach you get a nice breeze vs inland. The Tradewinds come in near Boynton Beach and out near North Miami. It keeps this area's weather more moderate. Worst areas for Hurricanes: Keys, Miami, Ft Myers, Panhandle. Alot of people have hurricane shutters and windows,
except for supplies, homes can be ready for a hurricane in about 15 minutes. And of course construction codes became more stringent after Andrew in the 1990's.

Well I should have kept my yap shut because now it's about to get cold here (after snowing). Normal for this time of year though.

I'm looking forward to real winter temps and snow. The worst weather is the fake winter that we've been having..38 degrees, grey, perpetually wet, gross, depressing...can't wait for some real snow!

100% this. If it is going to be cold at least have some snow on the ground to cover up the pine needles and grass.

Yea we've barely seen the sun in the past few weeks (and that was during work hours so I missed it). I don't mind the snow, but I can do without 0 degree weather - though I've found I can still go for walks if I'm dressed warmly and it isn't windy.

I am! lol
I'm waiting for the snowstorm to hit in the next few hours. One of the best things about living in Michigan/the Midwest is getting to really experience all 4 seasons!

I do like how everything looks with a blanket of snow on it. If it wasn't windy here it would be a nice day to go for a walk, especially since the cold weather hasn't hit just yet.

It got here right on schedule.
We're in for up to 7-10 days of bitter cold and, especially for you West MI folks, bouts of lake effect snow to keep you white-knuckling on the roads.
If you're a winter lover (of which I'm not), have a blast.
After the next 10 days, we'll get back to normal temps, about low to mid 30s for highs. Not December balmy but not Siberia like this coming week either.
