Stupid question with a hilarious answer
At the Gator Bowl presser, the Kentucky beat writer asked the Clemson beat writer, David Hood, how he thought Clemson would stand up to an SEC roster. He replied "Well that depends. Are we talking about Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Mississippi State, or Georgia?"

This has to be my least favorite thing about the SEC - riding coattails. Everyone thinks that getting the crap beat out of them by Georgia and Alabama entitles them to the same level as Georgia and Alabama.

Yeah, we see this in the Big Ten and now the Big XII, specially fans of a certain 3-win team.

I don’t mind sharing facts about the ACC’s performance after the fact, but I’m not rooting for rivals, waving a conference banner. I’ll never understand it.

Yeah ...

I mean, I rooted for Clemson this bowl season, because they were playing Kentucky.

I threw up in my mouth a little, a couple of times, but I did cheer for the Tigers.

Rooting for ACC teams against non-conference opponents is a no-brainer. Every OOC win translates, eventually, into money in your school's account. There is no downside.

In conference is a different matter. I tend to root for VT and whoever UVa is playing.
