Considering FSU is leaving the same acc that GT is in due to a bad choice, I don't think you're accomplishing what you thought you were with this thread ...

It was leaving the SEC and going Independent. Georgia Tech, Boosters and Admin thought they were better than the SEC and went Indy. Over the next 20 years they realized they were not ND of the south and were happy to join the ACC.

FSU currently thinks they are better than the ACC (Oh how Bobby Bowden is probably screaming at the current Admin and boosters from his grave)

Time will tell if paying 500-750M dollars is the wise move.

I think you are omitting a key element to the story - the NFL.

The NFL cut in on you and Tulane just a year or so after both of you announced your moves to independence. You had no chance to be the ND of the South once the NFL gave a franchise to UGa graduate Rankin Smith.

RE: FSU better Learn from Georgia Tech
The Arizona Cardinals have done nothing positive for ASU.
The Carolina Panthers have done nothing positive for UNC.
The Tennessee Titans have done nothing positive for Vandy
The Jacksonville Jaguars have done nothing positive for FSU
The Falcons have done nothing positive for GT
The Saints have done nothing positive for Tulane
The Colts have done nothing positive for Purdue or Indiana

You can see a statistical hit to attendance in all these places. Because there are now 10 or more superior game tickets available annually in these metros. You don't have to take the entire fan base to hurt the college team, just cull 10-15K people from the college stadium who might used to buy 6-7 college tickets a year. Debbie Yow has talked about the encroachment of professional sports into the local markets but even today there are people who think one more professional franchise added to a region is great. It's not for the college teams.

I don’t think the Jaguars did a lot to hurt FSU attendance, Jax is mostly a UF city.

No alumni in NE Florida then? No casual fans in NE Florida. Got it. 01-wingedeagle

The Jaguars came into existence 30 years ago. FSU's attendance from the early 90s went from 65k to 82k and now it's coming back down in the last 10 years. I'd blame ticket prices and home availability of games being the big culprit.
