Military Bowl presented by Go Bowling: Virginia Tech vs Tulane
Well I am a bit saddened. I have gone to several Military Bowls the past 10 years, but circumstances prevent it this year. Watching the bowl at the Navy - MC stadium is always a blast, so I am envious of those in attendance.

Plus, it's usually a fun AAC - ACC matchup, like this one looks to be.

Ugly weather in Annapolis. Tulane a shell of their regular season selves...

Annapolis is a great designation. But it’s rainy and gloomy today.

Tulane faded a lot down the stretch with a lack of depth.

That's really what we're talking about in football between the P5 and G5: It's the depth.

One thing that's always fascinated me is how a team like Tulane back in 2008 or 2009 (whenever Hurricane Gustav was) could stand toe-to-toe with #14 Alabama on downs 1-3, lose just 20-6 -- on a punt return for TD, a blocked FG returned for TD. Basically special teams was the only reason Tulane lost!

But then UTEP would just blast Tulane by 40.

It was because Tulane's top 22 guys in a "pro-style" game were close enough to P5 level players that it comes down to execution/game plan. They can hang in there with that.

But when you get into situations where depth is tested, it's game over. Alabama's special teams are "4-star recruits waiting their turn." Guys who will get 1000 receiving yards in 2 years and be 4th round picks are this year's punt returners and gunners. While Tulane's special teams is the 2-star recruits not good enough to start.

And UTEP wins by 40 because they're running 5 WR empty sets and just abusing Tulane's 4th and 5th corners.

Yes, cold and wet. I would actually like that!

After going to the Cure Bowl this year, there's a lot of comfort in watching a rain-soaked game from my couch.

This game is in a monsoon right now! The running games are clicking in it though.

Looks like a 4th straight 11 win team will bite the dust.

The rain probably helped, but I'll take any bowl win at this point.
