Anti-Trust Suit Against NCAA Filed

The walls are closing in on the NCAA. Ohio’s AD led 7 states in filing an anti-trust suit today against the NCAA for denying waiver requests.

If an injunction is granted, the NCAA cannot deny multi-time transfers in the meantime. McCloud could certainly transfer. So could Sarrat and any other transfer we picked up in the couple of years.

This case actually moves us closer to the NCAA "high resource" tier rules, across all sports and divisions.

Likely part of the reason NCAA is seeking combined rule changes and legislative changes.

Problem with the Baker proposed solution is it benefits the P4, at the expense of everyone else. But if tweaked properly with reasonable limits, and backed by laws, it may form an ok compromise.

FSU now chasing a separate antitrust action against CFP.

Maybe with some luck that will force the doors open a bit wider for G5 conferences as well.

Don't we have a wbb player that was going to potentially start before getting denied waiver?

It will be interesting to see how much risk institutions are will to take on with this temporary ruling. The NCAA restitution bylaw states that should this be overturned at some point, programs are at-risk of forfeits and/or forfeiting postseason revenue.

Wasn’t that bylaw also put on hold by the judge? Would seem the risk here is if the ruling is overturned then the bylaw would take effect again. So a player could transfer, then find themselves unable to play later.

Yes restitution was paused.

So how does this impact JMU, other than making our president look foolish?

Bristow our WBB transfer from OSU could play this year now if she wants to, especially with retribution gone.

However, if the hearing has a ruling that is adverse to the NCAA then McCloud, Sarratt, and any other transfer will have a easier time leaving us.
