Best Win Percentage D1/D2 Programs in Texas

For those of you who are hoping for a new Head Football Coach, does this Star change your mind, cast some doubt or changes nothing?
For me, this changes nothing. I am absolutely between Coach Whitten and enjoying the ride. If we continue these winning ways for the next two years, our new AD needs to give him an extension.

I decided to reflect and forgive Whitten after those quality SFA and ACU wins. The only “L” I’ll pin directly on his forehead as HC is the inexcusable SUU debacle. CAN. NOT. be up 20 at the half and lose that game! Not at home. All on him. The EKU loss was a simple player miscue at the most inopportune time possible. Bottom line is Whitten's a winner. At least he is at Tarleton, and that’s all that matters. He deserves to see out his extension, uninterrupted, into 2025, and we’ll see how we look then. Nobody can argue the fact that the man’s eye for talent and recruiting abilities are 2nd to none, which makes me think he’ll be at Tarleton in some capacity for a long time.

I just want a better offense… I have always said that he is a great HC… but with the new OC this year, everything was exactly the same.

Let’s tap the brakes on another long extension. A&M says hi!! Where would he go? Not D2, not FBS. Is another FCS gonna tempt him to a faraway state at a rate we couldn’t match or come close to? I don’t see it.
A short extension with maybe some incentives thrown in(playoffs, conference title, etc.) Let’s not go crazy.

Are you suggesting an extension beyond his current extension? Of course not. That’s ridiculous. As I’ve said before, no way he’s our HC at the FBS level, but he has earned the right to at least ride out his current extension. Post contract, I could see him being retained and transitioned to Associate AD of Recruiting, or something along those lines. I could also see his Alma Mater SFA (finally) hiring him away to replace a struggling Colby Carthel. Whitten wins, so he’ll have options if he chooses to keep coaching.

We hired Mason Miller last Spring so he didn’t really have the time to recruit for his offense. We came into this season with FIVE RBs, 3 TEs and an OLine built for Whitten’s run-heavy RPO. I think (hope) we’ll see a strong recruiting class at WR, Taller/Leaner/Faster OL and (fingers crossed) a NEW QB! We already have the perfect stable of RBs for MM’s hurry-up Air Raid style offense. Just noticed we took a nice slot WR recruit away from Texas State, which we were sorely missing. I think next year we mix in a more up-tempo passing game to compliment our proven ground game. We were a Top 15 offense last year, doing it mostly on the ground. Just need a few tweaks….including depth at WR and a NEW QB!

Nice! I hope he pans out for y'all. Who was it though? I haven't seen anything about it. We are certainly getting slaughtered on the recruiting trail according to 247. Thankfully that isn't the end all be all though.

Before everyone gets carried away let's remember Whitten has only won at Tarleton. Everywhere else has been a debacle.
That said, he should ride the Tarleton train as far as it will take him. JMHO
