RE: Kent State @ South Dakota State
I watch or listen to just about every basketball and football game and have for years. And a lot of women’s hoops as well. I tuned in last night, heard some of the pregame and when the game started, I thought there was some kind of glitch in the feed. Then I realized it was just one guy sitting in a quiet room describing the game from a monitor in Ohio. It was just weird. No crowd noise, no whistles, just a guy calmly talking into a microphone. About halfway through the first half, I realized I had more interesting things to do and just followed the game on ESPN gametracker. I’m sure glad the MAC games are at least on streaming. Last night was terrible to try to listen to.

Knocking down 22 of 24 free throws as a team and outrebounding a halfway decent opponent on the road is quite impressive. Especially when you consider that Brookings is nowhere near Mount Rushmore.

The only black eye that I see in the box score is more turnovers then assists. Also, it seems that Moss and Rollins combined for less than ten minutes. On to the Vikings.

Moss' minutes have been consistent around 5-8, but Rollins seems to have lost his minutes last night to Freeman. Neither is much of a rebounder/facilitator and just a sporadic scorer. Personally think Rollins is better but not by much.

More puzzled by up and down minutes for Gillespie. However, with VCD playing better/more consistent of late it's tough to get him minutes over Payton/VCD/Hornbeak.

Also note Bass came off the bench. While not much production vs. SDSU, I suspect he might have a little more scoring rope on the second unit, going forward.

Even DIII teams send a radio guy on the road.
I am Watching game ( for a fee). Radio guy is basically reading from gamecast sheet. So bush league.

LOL That's the way radio broadcast games back in the early 20th century!!! Bush, indeed!

Muskrat: Remember when Basketball was supposed to be a “sport of emphasis “ at KSU? Respect for loyal fans is just not there
anymore. Season Ticket holders used to get preferred parking , no more.
More and more folks have moved on as KSU didn’t nurture the masses
when they had them in the building. Very frustrating and sad.
They get the games on ESPN 850 in Cle a legitimate radio station and then broadcast a sham with less than professional broadcasting.
BTW. Hats off to the team on a quality win . Way to go!!

I agree but some of the lack of attendance is for other reasons. In my case I stopped going for two years because of COVID. They did the right thing but people find other things to do and change habits. Been to maybe 5 games the last two years instead of 26. Has nothing to do with Kent policies. Also remember Nielsen made it a priority. Who knows what this guy thinks.
I hear you and agree, but while we didn’t attend during Covid we still did our part contributing to the program. Sendy and his staff are totally classy and acknowledge support at every opportunity.
More admin staff in V.I. than fans and donors .
No idea who paid their way and who didn’t.
I will leave it at that.
The new admin seems much less concerned about attendance and donors.
Not nearly as accessible as previous was. Is that good or bad ? Again no opinion on my part.
All I know for sure is coaches and players are giving 110% and fans are reacting positively, just too bad more don’t show up

Not caring about donors, large, medium, or small, will come back to haunt you. You need everyone for capital improvements, coaching salaries, NIL collectives (however large or small) and much much more. Very disappointed with Randale in this regard. You cannot keep up with the Joneses long term like this.

It's really too bad because for the price of a GA ticket it is really entertaining. True you're not going to see the same skill level as OSU or Pitt, but again, $15 as opposed to $70. Plus you can sit 30' from the court. It's really too bad we can't market what we have because it is rather special and intimate. Heck, students can get in for free and stand 5' away from the baseline! Not just Main Campus students, but staff, branch campuses, grad students, adjunct faculty, part-time employees. even the campus maintenance and janitors. Do we reach those people? I guess we need to rethink "#flashfamily" and "#flashesforever."
Anyway, my point being, come to the game. Screw the bueaurocrats and watch our student athletes, cheerleaders, dance team, and band.

In short, what has happened to THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE where athletics, cheerleaders, dance teams were a major part. A university the size of Kent State (actually all MAC schools) should be able to generate 3-5K student attendance for FB and BB, and perhaps half of that for successful other sports. And Kent has several of those.

IMO

Ironically our 0-7 wrestling team (lost to DII Gannon today) drew a nice crowd for a 1PM Friday afternoon meet. Wrestling crowds aren’t that large but this crowd was probably as large as when we were pretty good 7-10 years ago.
