Unfortunately, we didn't get the Troy vs JMU match we deserved.

JMU gets a lot of crap on here, and some is warranted. But they were the best team in the best division in the G5.

People always overestimate how much their winning has to do with their brand and underestimate how important it is to have the right coaches in place. Troy from the late Blakeney years through Neal Brown and Chip Lindsey and then Jon Sumrall should prove that.

They absolutely count. What GS did (6 national titles) and what App did (3 national titles in a row) is part of what makes your programs' histories as great as they are. You did it playing by the same rules those teams had to play by, you just did it better. That counts for something.

That’s also a big reason for the passionate fan bases you have. Troy was never able to quite get there in FCS. A lot of success, but was never quite able to get to the pinnacle of the FCS mountain before moving to FBS. Our national championships occurred in D2 back in the 80’s. Most of our fan base doesn’t even remember those.

The NCAA rules suck.

I'd argue that Troy played the east's best team at the moment. App proved they were better than JMU at the end of the season by beating them. I also think App played a harder, better game with Troy than JMU did, but someone good with stats would need to analyze that.

But the rule does suck. JMU really should have been fully eligible.

I saw what App’s dline did to JMU, and then watched Troy’s dline last night.

Troy yesterday was a different level.

Team SoS - Opponents SoS
App 93 - 65
Troy 101 - 88
JMU 111 - 91

Looks to me like App was the better team in the East. Tougher schedule and overcame early season adversities.

And this is something I will never get over. Georgia Southern came into Troy in 1995 for a playoff game. Troy was undefeated. And Blakeney, who I adore by the way - decided to balance his checkbook the last two minutes of the game. We lost. I've been in therapy ever since.

And I’d be a very wealthy man if there weren’t rules stopping me from walking in a bank and taking all the money.

Maybe Troy should move back to the east and try running the table. It's not coincidence that you moved west and dominated.

Well it’s not like we were begging to move to the West. We got booted there to make rooms for others in the East.

05-stirthepot

8 SBC championships > 1 SBC championship

That was a pretty quick pivot to going from talking about divisions to talking about teams...

Not to mention that half those titles occurred in a league that only had 3 of its current teams in it.

Its hard for me individually to pay a ton of attention to what happens pre 2014 football season. Titles after that season? Claim away.

PFFFT

So Alabama shouldn't claim their pre-UT/OU titles? Or the pre-TAMU/Mizzou? Or the pre-Arkansas/South Carolina, or the ones before Tulane, GT, and Suwannee left?
