Weren't some people ripping CSS on the amount of transfers out of UC this year?

Sounds like (another) mass exodus in Colorado as well:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/st...s-colorado

At this rate, Deion will have a completely new roster every year. 03-lmfao

I'm so glad UC didn't hire that clown.

Bearcats just picked up Mason Fletcher’s brother Max from the transfer portal. Fills the need at the punter spot when Mason moves on after this year. Good to have another Aussie at the position.

He played in every game last year as a RS Frosh depth LB, he's the first one this time around that really seems like one that could've made an impact on the team/roster.

Wow, I must be getting old. I don’t remember seeing the kid on the field. Our new DC schemes 5 defensive backs so I wonder if it came down to fit or playing time. Like we’ve all said, rarified earth you keep your entire roster intact in 2024.

I don't really pay attention to who comes and goes anymore. Until we get to Camp Higher Ground I don't look at the roster. Players are fungible anymore with the unlimited transfers.

He was a guy who transfered here from Louisville last summer. He'll probably transfer 3+ times in his 5 years. It's becoming so common as to be an expectation.

Odd that he followed Coach Satt here from UofL, and now is leaving.

Gillison was never at Louisville; he signed with us out of high school.

Yeah, he was probably getting pinched a bit because he was very much a 3-4 outside LB...kind of almost a DE/LB hybrid. Wasn't going to fit well in a scheme that has 3 off-ball LBs, and it sounds like a few of the young guys are making very big waves in their first spring here too.

RE: Bearcat Football 2024 Off-season
I'm always excited to read about new talent joining the team but I will defer to one of our "experts" here on who Satterfield is getting and if these players are filling specific needs for the '24 Bearcats.

My overall feeling (and it's no more than perception) is that this coaching staff's first full year of recruiting was underwhelming at best. I know establishing these relationships takes time, but Satterfield was a P4 coach, UC is now P4 after being the most high profile G5 as a CFP participant. I guess I'm left hoping for more. Tell me I'm wrong.

RE: Bearcat Football 2024 Off-season
I have such a hard time evaluating football recruiting. Obviously, there is a level of can't miss, near can't miss guy (5 star, high 4 star) the elite programs are consistently getting and those programs are clearly ahead of other programs with recruiting. But as you get away from there, I think evaluation of potential/fit and development are so much more important, which is why I struggle. I've watched too many UC teams that are more talented than other teams that had higher recruiting rankings than them to believe recruiting rankings as you move down tell the entire story.

There is going to be correlation between recruiting rankings and team success because I'm sure there is plenty of overlap in staff evaluations and recruiting rankings, but the best staffs know what they are looking for and get the best guys to fit it... I sometimes look at some of our 4 star and highest 3 star guys that didn't succeed and wonder if they were guys we got partly because the programs that compete in that 4 star high 3 star range didn't evaluate them as highly and didn't make them a priority.

I'm sure there are plenty of 4 and 5 star guys we would love to have on the roster that we just have no shot at. But I'm also sure there are 4 and high 3 star guys that might not be graded as highly by our staff as some of the mid 3 star guys they sign. I hope we are signing the guys we are because the staff has done their homework and these are the guys they have prioritized as having the most talent / being the best fit of the guys we can get. But I struggle to judge successful football recruiting classes just by the numbers. They have never told the whole story once you get to a certian point.

The transfer from Maine specifically sounds like a stud that was sought by a lot of programs, but ultimately, who knows? Uc has invested a lot in their recruiting staff to find the right guys. We won't know that until the guys have played and developed.

You need an off field front office staff just to manage the roster fluctuations. We have had 31 players enter the portal and we aren't even out of April yet.

I tend to evaluate the portal losses based on where they end up. Only 4 have moved on to places that I would consider at or above our level, all others are significantly below our level, which indicates to me that they're not necessarily losses as far as on-field impact is concerned.
