RE: Official Game Thread: Alabama A&M
We need to jump on this team early and get a win. They've been blown out in all three games.

RE: Official Game Thread: Alabama A&M
how much is it to ask if you are a paid professional color basketball analyst that you learn the teams name that you're doing a game on? This is two games in a row this guy continues to call us eastern Tennessee I realize he's not working for CBS or fox or ESPN but he is still a paid professional doing this and that should be the simplest most minimal thing you can do is learn the team name

At least they held on . That run of 3 pointers at the start of the second half proved to be just enough..

RE: Official Game Thread: Alabama A&M
Love the three point shooting. I've gotten so used to clanks off the rim, I internally yell, "Oh, no!!" when a three is shot. Last night I ended up breathing a sigh of relief, which was a nice change.
However, I feel like a broken record when I talk about FT shooting. We really need to be 70% or better. Although the difference between 67 and 70% is "only" 1-3 points in a game, it seems like those lost points seem to come when you can turn a one, two or three possession differential into a two, three, or four possession differential. And that changes the strategy for each team.

Yes I think games like these show that we are a work in progress. But it also shows that we have a very high upside and we are not even close to reaching our potential. We just have to play more and play together and keep getting better. By January I think this team will be a true conference contender.

RE: Official Game Thread: Alabama A&M
Another Buc Ugly win, but a win, nonetheless. It would be nice to see this team put together a solid, controlled game where they don't need to rely on a mad scramble at the end to either win or lose by a few points. However, that may not be what they are at base. Mad scrambling may be the code of this team's DNA.
Peterson is the real thing. Poised, aggressive, quick to the basket with the ability to score from outside. A lot of fun to watch.

This has been pointed out — Forbes was 6-6 through December his first year and finished 24-12 and don’t know - or to lazy to check - what he inherited compared to Savage.

RE: Official Game Thread: Alabama A&M
Forbes inherited a very talented team with players like Desonta Bradford, A.J. Merriweather, Isaac Banks, Petey McClain, Rashawn Rembert, and Lester Wilson. Many of these players would have probably left in today's transfer culture, but nonetheless their presence made the process of turning the program much quicker for Forbes than is realistic for Savage.

And didn’t Desonta end up being conference POY?

Desonta did. But this post completely undervalues what Forbes brought to the program and mischaracterizes what Forbes inherited. First, Rembert never played for Forbes. Second, Petey was a pass first point guard that had to be coached to even shoot the ball. They eventually got there but he was never great. Ike Banks was an undersized center who was developed over his time here with Forbes. Had Bartow been retained, he would have been the only center. Forbes did not inherit a full cupboard. He inherited a partially full cupboard - at best. He recruited around it and made those players he inherited so much better. Just my 2 cents.

Yes and Bartow was let go because the program had gone bad. It was to the point where he could not recruit any division 1 height and we had become a floundering program. Forbes used transfers to bring in what he needed to win.

Alabama A&M reminds me of The Citadel under Duggar. Very unusual style. My dad would say "They can't play and they won't let you play."
But at the end of the day it looks like a line drive in the box score.

Good points.
FT shooting tends to get a little better during the course of the season. Right now Bucs .676, opponents .692. If you don't count the Butler game Bucs are .701.
Asamoah, Seymour, Boyd and Peterson are going to shoot most of the free throws. All appear to be capable of being 70% or better shooters (although Boyd went 1-5 last game and is .611 right now).
