RE: SBJ: FSU is launching a streaming network
It'll only be FSU original content, nothing that belongs to the ACC and ESPN.

Here I would think you’d want FSU to be “stuck” in the ACC but it seems you actually want them to make more money than UCF.

As Chuck Berry said “you never can tell”

IIRC, Notre Dame already created Fighting Irish TV in order to provide broader access to passionate fans.

This move by FSU seems to confirm that the proliferation of content keeps growing…they’re providing niche services & content. Amazing how the top brands innovate.

As Chuck Berry said “you never can tell”

Chaos is a ladder.

Miami moving from the Big East to ACC is what started UCF on their realignment journey in the first place.

- Miami to ACC, USF to Big East, UCF to CUSA.
- UCF upset USF chosen for Big East, starts investing, build stadium, starts UCF-USF rivalry
- USF blocks UCF from Big East, Big East collapses, Big East reforms to AAC with UCF winning championship in first season, UCF wins first NY6 bowl with Big East BCS tag
- UCF-USF Rivalry peaks in 2017. UCF wins second NY6 bowl and Claims National Championship after Undefeated Season
- UCF accepts Big 12 invite

The whole chain of events started with Miami to ACC. If by some miracle FSU moves to the SEC/B1G and Miami gets left behind and is forced to join the Big 12. That's a huge win for UCF! We gain a in-state conference rivalry with Miami.

This is an interesting move.

FSU AD ruled out the possibility of going independent. If they think they are joining a P2 conference soon, then really no need to launch this network.

To me, this actually indicates FSU intends to stay in the ACC longer than some people want to believe.

So what’s the “sports” gonna be if the ACC/ESPN owns all broadcasting and digital rights? I’d be ok if the broadened it to include lectures and the like.

It's a nothingburger. They won't get enough people to pay for regular season games in secondary and tertiary sports to cover the production costs, unless those costs are so low that the contests are almost unwatchable. FSU has good fans, but they're no better than tOSU or Texas fans. This sort of thing is kinda cool for alumni who like to consume anything the school puts out, but its reach is very narrow.

Maybe it’s just Sports Talk.

They want a cut of all the podcasts and YouTuber content… lame if true.

Thats the target I imagine they are going after. The issue is for themier stream to be as entertaining/informative as the youtubers, while worth the price of admission. Thats where I believe they will get hung up.

RE: SBJ: FSU is launching a streaming network
This isn't a new thing. As a few others have mentioned, Notre Dame already does this. Clemson, Arkansas, Maryland, South Carolina and a few others have similar products. They do not have any live sports programming...it's just coach interviews, documentaries, school-produced programming, historical games, athlete podcasts, etc.

This is less about generating more revenue as it is about engaging donors and creating more fan data that a school can use for future projects. Think of it as a marketing newsletter on steroids

You will gain your big bro, Univ. South Florida, as you deserve. Congrats.

Not a big market for groomer programming.

Its a Great Idea for FSU! I mean WOW just think about all the former players, the chronicles of Bobby Bowden.... If they can get 1M crazed FSU alumni to subscribe and listen/watch it would be a huge success.

This kind of thing also pays off in recruiting athletes. It's one more way for them to be seen by their hometown neighbours and by pro scouts.

Florida State is playing for the national title in women's soccer. Every game these women play should be made available for view somewhere. Fans are interested, and it helps success generate more success.

Florida State is a major player in performance arts: film school, music theater, dance. Then, as you mention, there's educational content in other fields. The have plenty to show if the range of subject matter expands beyond sports.
