Proud of JMU and Fans This Week
The game wasn't what we wanted.

However, we broke the record for College Game Day.

Got to see mens basketball ranked.

Both soccer teams made to the tournament with me advancing.

Absolutely an amazing week.

Agree. Not dwelling on CCG or bowling. How do we get the stadium expansion. Need to pull the trigger now.

Absolutely the best experience I’ve had at Bridgeforth Stadium. I’m throwing the red flag on JMU’s attendance figures though. There is no way last night wasnt a new record. There’s some fishy math happening on homecoming in my opinion.

By “pulling the trigger NOW” what do you think needs to be happening that’s not already happening (behind closed doors in the JMU administration)?

Architectural feasibility studies have already been completed. They were done when the original “new” side of BFS was constructed. That’s why BFS looks like it does today. LR left JMU with the theoretical “blue print” about what the replacement to the Godwin side will look like.

Funding for up-to-date, specific construction plans that detail the tear-down/rebuild are most likely going to wait until the new AD is hired. Those detailed plans will of themselves cost hundreds of thousands, if not a few millions of $$$….and anything over 1 million for construction requires approval from the General Assembly.

At present, interest rates for bonds (which will undoubtedly be required to build any expansion) are very high. If they soften, perhaps in the next 24-30 months, we might see some specific requests in JMU’s budgeting planning process that documents how JMU wants to proceed. This timeline would also coincide with JMU getting closer to retiring the bonds on the first expansion.

The energy and enthusiasm for JMU athletics experienced this past weekend were intoxicating. I firmly believe that the push and need for expanding BFS isn’t going to go away, indeed, it’s only going to grow,

That said, the issue of starting “now” is a bit misleading. Planning is already underway. Yet, like everything JMU does, the planning for expansion is following an orderly (and for fans) secretive and painstakingly long time.

RE: Proud of JMU and Fans This Week
Something about the stadium tells you it isn’t as loud and disconcerting as it should be. Having the small side an additional 40 feet away from the field reduces the potential home field advantage.

JMU had 2 maddening false starts last night in a quiet atmosphere.
App State has none if I recall correctly. No communication problems, easily heard the QB clap.

With the expansion the grandstand gets closer and true homefield advantage can be unleashed. It would have helped a ton last night to get a few false starts from App State.

If you look at the 6 game home schedule this year, JMU had more false starts than the opponents and that should not happen

The current stadium arraignment kills the ability to trap sound. Is what it is. Once the other side is brought forward like you just mentioned it will be deafening in there.

However, for what it's worth. The App state offense was huddled close most of the game in order to hear the play calls yesterday. It was still pretty loud. Good job fans.

incredible weekend for a JMU fan!!! Despite the football final score, the semester rolls on. JMU has a lawsuit to finish what they started and make a wrong right, and other sports continue to pile it on today. It's a great time to be a JMU fan.

Gotta give extra shoutout to the students.

They were amazing.

Packed McAfee show
Were on fire at the hoops game.
Packed gameday.
Stayed the whole game for app. I thought on the 2 point conversion the end zone stand might collapse they were bouncing so hard.

We are fortunate to have a student fan base so invested in our athletics teams. That’s not the case every where.

Yesterday hurt, but this is just the beginning.

You don't make three NCAA tourneys in a fall (yes I am counting Volleyball already because I find it hard to not get an at-large now), be in the conversation for the NY6 G5 spot, and get picked first in both pre-season basketball polls without a strong foundation.

As a non-alum fan, joining the bandwagon last year has been a great decision.

I know we'll always something to gripe about, but that stadium was FULL for the whole game. During halftime, I remembered being in the marching band in the late 80s and playing to a nearly empty "M" side.

Let's get the expansion done as soon as it's practical, and let's keep on showing everyone else how it's done.

This has been one special year, and as much as yesterday's loss really hurt, it doesn't take away from how far JMU has come since they started monitoring the situation.

One of the great things about being an “everything” school is that while football loses, men’s basketball won, volleyball plays in the SBC championship shortly, and men’s soccer is in the Sweet 16.

Meanwhile, App State is acting like they won the Super Bowl. >shrug<

I was extremely impressed with how many fans stayed until close to the end. Even in games like this you normally see fans at other schools start walking at halftime. I loved how many people stayed to see the band and watched them - the MRDs and dance team did a fantastic job.
