Not an A&M fan but this seems too soon? Unless they know they are getting someone else (Harbarugh?)

It is a LOT of money...which A&M has, but still hard to imagine pulling the plug with that kind of buyout unless you have an exciting name to follow up with and shift the fans attention there.

Mildly surprised since they practically built him a statue two years ago but it’s the right move. He’s mediocre and the conference is only getting stronger. No idea who replaces him though.

Here's the problem--if you give him another year, he is still owed $67 million, so pay him now or pay him later, but this team is not progressing under him.

The arrival of UT to the SEC is accelerating this.

Jameis should get half. He made him. He's an average coach.

I don't think it is too soon. It's been six seasons now and TAMU is still mired in SEC mediocrity.

The money has been the holdup, but I've never thought that would force TAMU to keep him indefinitely. They have a lot of money at TAMU.

Every SEC team thinks they can hire the FSU coach and start winning like the Noles. When will they realize, it's not just the coach... it's the PLACE. Texas A&M is not and never will be Florida State.

THE SEC has a major problem with their ecosystem, too many big fish who think they should be 12-0 every year.

Part of this is certainly App State's fault.

I’ll admit I’m surprised at the timing, though not that he was fired. I figured it would be smarter to invest an extra $10m a year for a few years into NIL and get his buyout down. I sure hope we have a solid coach lined up to replace him at least, rather than going through 3 or 4 guys before finding someone like LSU did a couple years ago.

...guess it was a 'done deal' several weeks back, regardless of outcome (whoopin' Clanga typically has little effect... in fact, I'm pretty sure AU fired Harsin (whole different scenario) after he whuped MSU (but don't quote me))... maybe UAB can hire Jimbo, like they (and he) wanted back in the mid-2000s (post-Watson Brown)...

...but seriously, could A&M be looking at Urban? All baggage be danged? Hope not. Actually I would think a prime candidate would be Jeff Traylor at UTSA...dude is Texas-centric thru and thru, and a dang good coach... wouldn't mind that at all from my perspective...

The decision was reached at the recommendation of the President/AD at last Thursday’s BOR Meeting. Was that meeting private then?

Yeah, he really has no incentive to go through the stress of coaching again. He can do whatever fun, easy job he wants now.

Yes. Someone please take Traylor away from UTSA. I am tired of getting curb-stomped by his teams.
